Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 65

"Willow, I knew you'd call me, so I figured I'd just explain over the phone," she said.

"Alright, I'm listening," Ablitt replied, his curiosity piqued.

"I met a senior in college—she's a computer science major, but more than that, she's actually a skilled hacker. I asked her for a favor."

"A hacker?!" Ablitt nearly shouted, then immediately caught himself and lowered his voice. "Willow, isn't it risky to get a hacker involved? Could this get you into legal trouble?"

Willow's voice dropped to match his. "That's why I didn't tell you at first—I was afraid you'd worry."

Ablitt couldn't help but worry; just hearing this made his heart race. "No one else knows about this, right?"

She returned to her normal tone. "Relax. No one but us three knows. Promise."

"Still," Ablitt said, the anxiety lingering in his voice, "don't take risks like that again. It's just too dangerous. Honestly, if we followed the right procedures, we might've won anyway."

Of course we'd win, Willow thought, but the cost would be steep—and the punishment for the people who spread the rumors would amount to barely a slap on the wrist.

But she agreed easily, "Alright, I won't do anything risky like that again."

On the other end, Ablitt sounded like he let out a sigh. When he spoke again, it was with a wry admiration, "Kingston University really lives up to its reputation—so many talented people. I have to admit, I'm impressed."

Willow didn't reply. She knew Ablitt had once dreamed of attending Kingston himself, but he hadn't gotten in. It was a sore spot she didn't want to prod.

"By the way," Ablitt continued, shifting topics, "because of all this drama, your latest book has sold out in a matter of hours. Even your earlier novels are flying off the shelves. The editor-in-chief is pushing me to convince you to do a book signing—strike while the iron's hot."

He let out a short laugh. "Don't worry, I already turned them down for you. I even came up with an excuse—told the editor if we forced you into a signing, you'd walk out of your contract without a second thought."

Before Willow could reply, he added, "So you owe me one."

"Thank you, Ablitt. Dinner's on me next time," Willow said with a warm laugh, her heart full of gratitude.

As for the fallout from recasting so suddenly, Evelyn wasn't concerned. In her mind, all they needed was a new actor—problem solved. No harm done.

What she didn't know was that Emmett, the freshly ousted actor, blamed her for everything that had happened that day.

After all, who else but Evelyn—someone with the money and connections to ruin him—could have orchestrated his downfall?

Evelyn might not be sharp, but her real power came from Windsor & Co.—and she was Beasley's only sister.

Next up, Emmett figured, STAR Studios would probably sue him.

After the press conference, Emmett returned to the Simmons estate and locked himself in his room.

No matter who knocked, he refused to come out.
