Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 66

Worthington Manor

"Rosa, what did Beasley say?"

Rosamund had just set her phone down when her mother, Noah, crossed the room. Despite the faint worry on her face, years of careful self-care left her looking as elegant as ever.

Turning to her mother, Rosamund managed a gentle smile. "Beasley said they've come up with a solution. He wants to meet tomorrow to discuss the details."

Noah nodded in relief. "You and Beasley, you've been close since childhood. That sort of bond is rare, you know."

No one in the Worthington family had any idea that Beasley had already been married—and divorced—except for Rosamund herself. To Noah, Beasley remained the perfect candidate for a future son-in-law.

Just then, Cordelia, fresh from a nap and looking for something to eat, bounded down the stairs. She caught the last bit of their conversation and fluttered over like a cheerful butterfly, her eyes lighting up at her sister. "Is York coming tomorrow too? Can I come along?"

Rosamund hesitated, glancing instinctively at Noah.

The two sisters were striking opposites. Rosamund had inherited their mother's grace—she was poised, refined, and beautiful in a way that seemed almost untouchable. Cordelia, on the other hand, was all round cheeks and wide eyes, her father's child through and through, with an infectious energy and a heart worn openly on her sleeve.

It was impossible to miss the way Cordelia's eyes sparkled when she mentioned York. Was she…? Had her little sister fallen for him?

Noah opened her mouth to speak, but Rosamund shot her a subtle look. Taking the hint, Noah swallowed her words.

Cordelia noticed the hesitation. "Is it because I'd get in the way? Is it all business talk?" Her disappointment was obvious, even as she tried to hide it.

Rosamund softened. "It's not that you'd be in the way, but the meeting will likely involve some confidential business matters."

Cordelia understood immediately. This wasn't the kind of occasion for her.

Why?

Why were things changing?

Everything was supposed to unfold just as it had in her previous life. So why did unexpected twists keep appearing? Beasley's divorce—that had never happened before, but she couldn't deny she was relieved by it.

But the disaster at the premiere? Her sister falling for York? None of this was in the script.

Was it because she'd been given this second chance at life? Had her return set new things in motion, shifting the course of fate?

Rosamund had been so sure she could control this "new beginning," so confident in her plans for the future. But now, for the first time, she felt a tremor of doubt.

An uneasy feeling crept in, unsettling her heart.
