Rania stared at the blank paper, which was as blank as her mind, because she didn’t know what to write down.
He didn’t want to out Kean. She didn’t want something happen to her. In a way, she could understand why she agreed to do this dangerous job.
War cost a lot of lives, and not only those people, who died in the battlefield, who had to suffer, but the family that they left behind had to go through agony as well.
And then for what? All of that happened just because the Mad King couldn’t tone down his bloodthirst nature. Because he wanted to see more blood. He waged this war for his own satisfaction.
Because of that war, there were a lot of people like Kean.
Rania could understand her desire to stop this whole madness. It was understandable when there were people, who were against it, but they couldn’t be very vocal about what they were thinking, knowing the Mad King was very intimate with violence.
Anything that went against him would end with their dead. Therefore, it was not a surprised. Maximus must have predicted to, but the thing that he had not realized yet was the fact how close the enemy was.
[Why do you have to wage a war?] Rania asked. She wrote it down, and then handed it to the king, who read it with furrowed brows.
“What? Are you interested in a war now?” He handed back the paper to Rania, who wrote down the reply.
[Many people died during the war.] Rania wrote back, she bit down the butt of her pen nervously, especially when she saw how the king didn’t like this topic.
This time, Maximus squatted down, so his eyes were on the same level as hers, and this made Rania pulled back out of instinct.
But the king held her shoulder to prevent her from moving away. He didn’t grip her chin anymore, because he could potentially scratch her skin again.
“What is it? Is it Alaric, who told you this?” Maximus asked, there was a dark edge in the way he spoke, but Rania shook her head. “Why are you suddenly interested in the war?”
Obviously, Rania’s sudden interested was rather suspicious. This was the last topic that Maximus expected to have with his mate.
“What is it? Tell me. Is it Alaric? Your father is trying to say something to you?” Maximus narrowed his eyes dangerously at his mate, and Rania shook her head. She tried to grab the paper and the pen, but Maximus threw the two items away. “Talk. I want you to talk. You can talk with your father about the war, but you don’t
want to talk to me?”
No. Rania had never talked about the war with her father. Alaric didn’t even mention about the war, even though the end goal was the same; Alaric and Kean wanted the king to die.
She learned about the war because of Kean.

“Tell me!” Maximus roared angrily, his patient was running low because of her. This woman drove him crazy.
He had promised himself that he would do better. He would keep his temper in check whenever she was around, especially when he was with her.
He was happy because of what happened between them last night and this morning, he thought, they had moved somewhere closer. They finally could figure out the relationship between them.
