Chapter 57
“I heard her screaming from outside, but because I didn’t have a permission to enter the room, I didn’t check.” The warrior lowered his head, showing his neck in an utter submission.
On the other hand, Rania couldn’t believe with what she was hearing. How could he say something like that without even blinking? He was lying. He was lying through his teeth in front of the king. He didn’t even flinch. How he would do that?
Rania looked at the warrior in disbelief. “He lied! He lied! Killian was here!” Rania screamed, she was enraged. Her blood was boiling, she was having a hard time to breath, as she tried to explain the situation to Maximus, but her words came incoherent.
Of course, it didn’t amuse the king at all. He stared at Rania with a sharp gaze.
“He lied! Please! He lied!” Rania kept repeating the same words over and over again, but even herself could hear how crazy it sounded, especially when the warrior didn’t say anything, and let her throw her fit.
The warrior looked at her with pity, and this only angered Rania even more.
She didn’t know what came to her mind, but she grabbed a sharp shard from the broken vase that she broke earlier, and then tried to attack him. She was not going to let him to mock her. She was telling the truth, but why they didn’t believe her?
However, it only made her situation even worse, and her words became even more hard to believe.
“Stop this insanity!” Maximus roared, he caught Rania before she could attack the warrior, who looked surprised, but he didn’t make any attempt to be defensive, since he knew he could handle Rania just fine.
A shifter could sense if the other shifter was way more superior than them or if they were weaker than them, obviously, Rania belonged to the latest category.
“I am going to kill him! I am going to kill him!” Rania couldn’t regulate her emotions, she only blurted out what was in her mind, she couldn’t breathe properly. Her mind was a fuzzy, it felt like she was in a mountain with fog that covered her vision.
“Get out,” Maximus said to the warrior, who bowed down his body, and then walked out.
He walked very slow, as if he was taunting Rania, but probably that was only in her mind, because she didn’t even know what was right or wrong at this moment.
“I am going to kill him! He lied! He lied to you! I didn’t lie to you! Killian was here!” Rania didn’t care how her palm was bleeding when the king took away the sharp shard from her hand, and threw it away. She couldn’t feel the pain.
But then, Rania remembered what Killian had told her. There were so many people from the Movement, who had surrounded this place. The king didn’t know that he had surrounded by the enemy.
To be fair, Rania was his enemy too right now, as she actively poisoned him in whatever chance she got.
She wanted to tell him that, but she stopped herself. Why would she tell him? She would never believe her,
and what the benefit for her to disclose that?
It was not like she was quiet because she agreed with the Movement, but because she hated this mate of hers. She wanted him to be gone.
If everything went well and he died, Rania planned to disappear, she was not going to let Caden capture her. She was not going to let any of them to hold her back from the freedom she deserved. She was going to kill herself if it happened.
Suddenly, Rania stopped shouting at the king, she stared at him, but her gaze looked empty, as if she was staring right through him, while Maximus held her in an arm length.
“You don’t believe me, do you?” Her voice was eerily calm, as if she talked about the weather, but her gaze morphed into pain, as the reality hit her. “You don’t believe with what I said, and thought I am crazy, that I am the one, who lied, right?”
Maximus didn’t say anything. He only stared at her, and for a split second, Rania felt the urge to make him believe her. She wanted someone to believe her for whatever reason. She wanted them to truly hear her.
