Maximus couldn’t sleep, he was steaming with anger, and the only thing that held him back from storming out of the room and issued an order to raze down the Black Stone pack was his mate.

After crying, and hyperventilating for long time, she finally fell asleep, and he didn’t want to leave her alone.

But, in the morning, Maximus would make sure to issue an order to kill that bastard alpha, who had forced himself into his mate, and spread false rumor about her.

He would get him caught.

However, when the morning came, a shocking news hit him first.

“Lula was found dead in her bedroom last night,” Eiten said, he looked upset, because he was quite close with the healer, and the thought someone had harmed her inside the palace was unsettling, which meant that place was not safe.

“What the cause of her dead?”

“Poison.”

This news was sent directly to the king by the royal beta the first thing Declan did when he learned what happened.

Currently, Maximus and Eiten were walking toward the dining room, where all of the people were waiting for them.

There were other things that the king had to do today, since his visit was packed for two weeks, but it seemed they had to cut short with their visit and returned to the palace.

Lula was not only a healer, but she was one of a rare people, who believed in Maximus and secretly treated him whenever he was badly beaten.

She couldn’t go against the previous king openly, since it would be a dead sentence for her, but she helped with whatever she could.

“We are leaving this afternoon,” Maximus said. He wanted a thorough investigation on this matter. A dead by poison. It was an obvious thing; she was killed.

As a healer, there was no way she didn’t know that she had consumed poisonous thing. And if she was killed within the palace’s walls, which meant the enemy was very close.

“Okay, I will cancel all the meetings for the rest of your visit.” Damn. It would be a lot, since they just arrived two days ago.

However, Eiten knew why Maximus wanted to go back. He wanted to return as well, and learned everything in detail.

“What is it?” Eiten almost ran into Maximus when he suddenly stopped walking and then turned around to face him. “What?”

“I want you to send someone to get Caden, I want to kill him with my own hands.

“Caden?” Eiten didn’t get it at first, but then he only knew one person with the name of Caden that could piss the king off, “You mean alpha Caden from Black Stone pack? Why?”

The royal beta was not sure what kind of bloodlust state Maximus was in right now, but he believed, killing Caden was not the answer and it wouldn’t help with anything. “Why do you want to do that?” Eiten narrowed his eyes incredulously. “I am not going to let you go into a killing spree, okay. We have a better thing to do”

Maximus wanted to strangle him, but he understood why Eiten reacted this way. “It was false rumor. He forced himself into my mate. He spread lies about the future queen of the kingdom, and lied to the king’s face. Those reasons are enough to convict him with treason.”

“What?” Eiten blinked his eyes, he had a hard time to grasp with what Maximus told him, because it sounded insane, but then, he had this suspicion for a long time, yet he didn’t have the proof to support it. “How do you know that?”

“Rania told me last night.”

“She opened up to you?!” Eiten asked incredulously, not because he didn’t trust the king, but simply because he couldn’t believe after all he had to go through to ask her to open up with him, she finally did it, but with

Maximus.

“What is it?!” Caden snapped. The light from the corridor irritated his eyes, the sun was almost up, and the sky had turned bright red. “It’s better an important thing, or else I am going to kill you,” he groaned.
