Delete My Love for You novel Chapter 185

Charlotte followed the crowd’s gaze toward the entrance.

Darren and Xena walked in arm-in-arm, flanked by a procession of sharply dressed engineers and scientists—the elite team the Harrington Group had assembled for the bid. The earlier sarcastic remark had come from none other than Sean Lewis, a titan in the medical field and technical advisor to the Harrington Group’s artificial heart development unit.

Sean looked to be in his early sixties. His silver hair was slicked back with precision, and his dark, perfectly tailored suit lent him an air of cultivated sophistication. Yet behind that polished exterior lurked the unmistakable arrogance of a man long accustomed to academic power. His deep-set eyes swept the hall with a cool, cutting disdain; when they landed on Charlotte, his contempt was undisguised.

Charlotte’s last memory of Sean dated back eight years. Back then, she’d handed the first draft of her painstakingly researched paper on optimizing synthetic heart valve materials to Herbert—who was, at the time, Sean’s doctoral student. Not only had Sean published the paper under his own name, but he also made sure to sabotage any hope of Herbert contesting the theft. He had Herbert banished to a remote little research outpost for two years, effectively delaying Herbert’s promotion to full professor by the same amount of time.

Charlotte glanced at Sean, then at the other technical experts. Many faces were familiar—they were professors from Astra Research Institute, people she’d mentored countless times. Once, they’d addressed her with respect as “Ms. Lawson.” Now, they stood firmly against her.

If even Herbert, whom she regarded as a brother, could betray her, what loyalty could she expect from mere acquaintances?

Her gaze cool and steady, Charlotte turned back to Sean. “Mr. Lewis, you accuse me of deceiving the scientific community. On what grounds?”

“On what grounds?” Sean’s voice dripped with scorn. His eyes flicked to her paralyzed limbs, a cruel smile twisting his lips. “Mrs. Fairchild can’t move her arms or legs. Are we to believe she wrote those papers for the international medical journals with her eyes alone?”

A hush fell over the room as everyone, even Mr. Jones, turned to look at Charlotte’s motionless hands and feet.

Murmurs broke out: “He’s right. Mrs. Fairchild can’t even move her hands—how could she possibly publish research?”

“Mr. Lewis must be onto something. Someone powerful must be ghostwriting for her!”
