Charlotte had no idea what Darren had just said. All she saw was the sudden flush of blood in his eyes, a wild, murderous glare that made it look like he could snap at any moment.
She opened her mouth to intervene, but just then Darren let go of Bradley’s collar and gave a cold, twisted smirk. “Bradley, you’ve got guts. I’ll give you that.”
With that cryptic remark, Darren shot Charlotte a hard look before walking away with Noah in tow.
Xena hurried after them.
All around, students and staff were still whispering and staring. Bradley swept Charlotte up into his arms and carried her straight to the car, Ryan Lawson climbing into the back seat right after them.
As the car pulled away from the school, Charlotte finally broke the silence, her voice tense. “Darren’s insane—when he loses it, no one can stop him. You should keep your distance. I don’t want you getting dragged into this mess.”
Bradley loosened his tie, his tone calm and steady. “Lotty, he won’t be able to bother you much longer.”
Charlotte frowned, picking up on something in his words, but let it go for now.
Meanwhile, Darren sat in the back of his Rolls-Royce, radiating fury.
Charlotte’s words echoed in his mind, the way she’d defended Bradley: “If you so much as touch a hair on my husband’s head…”
And Bradley’s silent vow, mouthed across the distance: “She’s mine.”
Darren clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed. Mr. Nathan Harrington was calling. Darren answered with barely concealed irritation. “Hello?”
“So? Did Charlotte agree to help treat Noah’s amnesia?”
Darren froze. He’d forgotten all about that.
But remembering how cold Charlotte had been outside the school, he could already guess the answer. That heartless woman… There was no way she’d listen to him, not anytime soon.
“Grandpa, I’ll find a psychologist. I’ll have them take a look at Noah.”
A click. The old man hung up without another word.
That night, Charlotte became the talk of the internet.
