Charlotte let out a dry laugh. “There’s no need. There aren’t any cameras in the apartment. Even if Mr. Fairchild gives me a leg massage, the board won’t see how considerate their CEO is toward his wife.”

Bradley’s expression stiffened. “You really think everything I do is just for the board’s benefit?”

“Isn’t it?”

Charlotte continued, “Ever since the incident at the last investor conference, shareholders around the world know that the CEO’s wife at N-LINK is a prodigy who laid the groundwork for artificial heart technology before she was even out of her teens.”

“N-LINK’s stock price has shot up. I’m glad I kept my promise and made sure Mr. Fairchild’s investment paid off.”

“He doesn’t need to go out of his way to keep up appearances for the sake of our agreement. Even if he does nothing else, he’s already given me the support I needed for my work on the microchip. I’ll hold up my end of the bargain and keep working for N-LINK.”

When Bradley heard her say this, his face froze for a moment.

She really did see their relationship with perfect clarity—a level-headed, almost clinical understanding.

That was exactly what Bradley had wanted at the start.

Her talent, her brilliance—that was what he’d been after all along.

But even Bradley didn’t know when he had started to want more.

Bradley swallowed hard, voice low and magnetic. “Lotty, I know I can’t expect you to always be on my side. I just ask that you don’t stand against me.”

For a moment, the air in the car went still.

From the passenger seat, Charlotte couldn’t help glancing over at him.

Bradley’s face was unreadable, as if shrouded in mist. She couldn’t see through him at all.

She looked away, finally deciding to let the silence linger.
