He swallowed his pride, forcing himself to explain everything between him and Xena, desperate for her to understand that she still mattered to him—that she’d always had a place in his heart.
But all his efforts, every ounce of humility and every explanation he offered, seemed like nothing more than a joke to her.
“How could this be…”
Through gritted teeth, Darren muttered under his breath, “How could she have become so heartless?”
For the first time, he felt true despair—helpless and lost.
Power, wealth, status… all the things he’d once believed put the world at his feet, were suddenly useless before Charlotte.
No. This couldn’t be the end.
He clenched his jaw so hard he tasted blood.
When he finally lifted his head, the red veins in his eyes were slowly overtaken by a wild, dangerous obsession.
Charlotte had loved him once—loved him deeply. That kind of love didn’t just vanish into thin air.
Something had clouded her judgment. It had to be that!
He had to find out what. No matter what it took, he’d tear down every obstacle standing between them.

Elsewhere, after leaving the restaurant, Charlotte headed to Ryan’s preschool. She only meant to check in, but unexpectedly spotted Noah.
He was sitting alone in a corner, not playing with the other children.
Suddenly, Noah’s gaze locked onto hers.
Charlotte quickly looked away and maneuvered her wheelchair to leave, but Noah darted out the school gate.
Despite being only five, he caught up with her in no time.
He threw out his arms, blocking her path, his dark eyes intense and fixed on her. “You came to see me, didn’t you?”
Charlotte frowned. “No.”
“Yes, you did! I saw you looking at me!”
Noah stepped closer, unwilling to accept her answer.
