Darren rushed straight to the hospital.

He anxiously questioned Lena Harrington at Noah’s bedside. “How’s Noah?”

Lena’s eyes were red and swollen. “The fever’s broken, but he just won’t wake up.”

Just then, Xena arrived at the hospital, accompanied by the housekeeper.

She glanced at the unconscious Noah lying in bed. A fleeting glimmer of relief passed through her eyes, but her words were laced with concern. “What happened to Noah…?”

Darren turned on the housekeeper, his tone sharp. “Who told you to bring Xena here? I told you she was to stay home and rest!”

“Darren, don’t blame her,” Xena cut in quickly. “I insisted on coming. I’m worried about Noah…”

Darren’s face darkened, and he was about to say more when the doctor walked in.

He stepped forward to ask about Noah’s condition. The doctor’s expression was grave. “Your son is in a self-induced coma. He doesn’t want to wake up. Unless someone he truly cares about calls him back, he may never regain consciousness.”

“Never wake up? Isn’t that just… a vegetable?” Xena gasped, but couldn’t quite hide the hint of a smile in her eyes.

The word “vegetable” sent a chill through Darren, as if he’d plunged into icy water.

Lena broke down, sobbing. “Noah…”

She suddenly stood, shoving Darren hard. “When I left Noah with you, he was only a year old—so lively, so confident! I poured my heart into raising him, and now look what he’s become in your and Charlotte’s care! Do you have any idea what it cost me, those sleepless nights I spent looking after him?”

Lena was nearly hysterical as she hurled the accusation.

The doctor quickly intervened. “Ms. Harrington, right now the most important thing is to find the person he cares most about. There’s only a seventy-two-hour golden window to wake him. After that, even if you find the right person, it may be too late.”

Seventy-two hours?

All color drained from Lena’s face.

Darren felt a cold alarm ring inside him. He knew exactly who Noah cared about most now.

He pulled out his phone and called Charlotte.
