Mr. Nathan Harrington couldn’t hold Darren’s piercing gaze. He looked away, his voice coming out hoarse.
“Darren, why weren’t you with Noah? What did the doctor say?”
Darren didn’t bother with the question.
“Grandpa, let’s not change the subject.”
He strode to the edge of the bed, eyes locking on the old man’s evasive ones.
“There’s someone out there working against me. Here’s the interesting part—he’s got text messages from you, the earliest one sent fourteen years ago.”
Mr. Harrington’s pupils shrank. “You… what are you talking about?”
Darren exchanged a glance with the old butler, then offered a cold, almost amused smile as he sat down at the bedside. He drummed his fingers on his knee, feigning nonchalance.
“I already have this guy. Considering everything he’s done to me, I’m thinking about sending him off to international waters. Let fate decide what happens next.”
The old man’s throat tightened.
“Darren, he… No, there’s no such person! You must be mistaken!”
“So you don’t believe I’ve got him?” Darren gave a thin smile, then pulled out his phone. He hit a speed dial, pressing the device to his ear.
“Don’t wait any longer. Take him out to open water. His fate’s not my concern.”
“Wait!”
Nathan Harrington was shaken by the steel in Darren’s eyes. He finally broke.
“Darren! You can’t hurt him!”
Darren raised an eyebrow, mocking.
“Oh? And why not?”
“Because he’s your… your half-brother.”
The confession seemed to drain every ounce of strength from the old man.
Darren froze for five full seconds, his features going rigid.
Finally, he let out a strangled laugh, disbelief thick in his voice.
“Grandpa, are you losing it? My parents only had me, and now you’re telling me I have a brother?”
Mr. Harrington’s voice was raw.
“Your father… had an affair. When I found out, for the sake of the Harrington family’s reputation, I sent the woman abroad to have the child. The boy took her last name—Philip Zade. They’ve lived quietly in the villa overseas all these years.”
