Delete My Love for You novel Chapter 74

Six hours later, the doctor returned to change her bandages for the second time. When he finished, he gestured for the housekeeper to bring in a steaming mug of herbal medicine.

“Ms. Lee, it’s time for your medicine.”

Charlotte blinked, surprised. “Medicine?”

“For the best results, Ms. Lee, you should take this orally as well as apply the ointment,” the housekeeper explained gently. “Please, drink it while it’s hot.”

Charlotte’s brow furrowed as Mr. Wood added, “It’ll help you heal faster.”

If she was supposed to drink this, why hadn’t the doctor given her any the first time he treated her?

She said nothing, taking the mug and letting the steam waft up to her face. She brought it close to her lips, breathing in the scent.

The implant in her mind, filled with encyclopedic knowledge—including medical texts—quickly delivered an answer: there was a trace amount of monkshood in the mixture.

Monkshood, a traditional herbal remedy, contains a lethal toxin—aconitine. Improperly prepared or taken in excess, it could be deadly.

This mug contained only a small dose—about half the amount needed for poisoning. One serving wouldn’t kill her, but if she drank another tomorrow, it might be fatal.

Even if someone investigated, testing only this single mug would reveal nothing suspicious.

The doctor had never shown any animosity toward her. Unless… unless someone had paid him off? Was Xena trying to kill her quietly?

A shadow flickered across Charlotte’s eyes.

She’d been worrying about how to escape after Darren saw her true face. Now, perhaps she could turn the tables.

She tipped her head back and swallowed the entire mug in one go, then handed the empty cup back to the doctor.

He took it, avoiding her gaze, though his voice was calm. “Ms. Lee, after tomorrow’s final treatment, your face should be fully healed. Get some rest.”

Charlotte nodded. Once the doctor left, she lay back on the bed and closed her eyes, thinking silently: Darren, you’ll have your answer soon enough…

Upstairs, in the study—

Whether Charlotte was alive or not was no longer her concern. What mattered now was getting rid of Lottie—and erasing everything she knew about Charlotte for good.

She looked up at him with wide, tearful eyes, her voice fragile. “Two years ago, when Charlotte and I were kidnapped, do you regret choosing me?”

Darren’s embrace tightened.

“Xena, there’s no one in this world more important to me than you. Even if I had to choose again, I’d make the same decision.”

“And if I did something to upset you… would you still be on my side? Would you protect me?”

He paused, then made his promise without hesitation. “Shortie, no matter what you do, I’ll always keep you safe.”

A glimmer of malice flashed in Xena’s eyes.

Lottie, no one can protect you now. Tomorrow will be the day you disappear—forever.
