‘Thank goodness, it’s not too late to snap out of it! If it wasn’t for Sienna, I’d still be lost in a fog!’ Sophie thought to herself.
Now that her mind was sharp, she could really see how foolish she’d been before.
Sophie really believed there was something magical about Sienna. She just had that kind of power!
Whenever she was with Sienna, Sophie felt like both her body and soul were washed clean.
Right now, she was even starting to think… ‘Honestly, maybe that car accident was a blessing in disguise!” Sophie thought to herself.
Sophie couldn’t take her eyes off Sienna. Each glance shone even brighter, like she was looking at the one person she worshipped most in the world.
That worshipful look in Sophie’s eyes seriously rattled Declan.
He’d always thought he could keep that naïve girl from the Brown family wrapped around his finger- molding her any way he pleased.
His scheme was simple: use Sophie as a stepping stone, so one day the Cooke family would climb to the top of Orlathis City and stand over the Browns.
But right now, those ambitious plans were only just beginning. ‘So this is how Sophie treats me now?’ Declan gritted his teeth inwardly, barely believing how fast things had changed.
‘Every damn bit of this is thanks to Sienna!’ Declan cursed, feeling the anger boil up inside him.
‘If Sienna hadn’t barged into Sophie’s life, she’d still be wrapped around my little finger!’ Declan thought bitterly.
“It’s you!” Declan spat, pure fury blazing in his eyes as he shot Sienna a death glare.
“Sienna, you’re the reason she’s changed! You went and messed with Sophie’s head, drove a wedge between us, didn’t you? You conniving snake, I…”
Before Declan could even get the words out, Sophie swung her hand and slapped him square across the face.
She didn’t hesitate. Her slap was fierce and loud, echoing through the room.
Sophie usually looked sweet and fragile, but right now, standing in front of Sienna, she was suddenly bold and aggressive, her whole posture shouting that she was here to protect her.
She put absolutely everything she had into that slap, using every bit of strength she could muster.
Her cheeks burned red with fury as she shot Declan a fierce glare. “Shut up! Who said you could insult
Sienna?

“Declan, you were my closest friend growing up, the only one I ever had around, so of course you kept me fooled all this time! But now I finally see you for who you are: a mooching, wannabe social climber who leeches off women and plays the victim. I don’t want anything more to do with you-and this has absolutely nothing to do with Sienna!
She pointed straight at Declan’s nose. “Try insulting Sienna again, or even daring to glare at her. Go ahead, see what happens! I’ve got plenty of ways to make you spit out every cent you conned me out of, and you’ll pay it back with interest!”
Declan’s face went completely pale.
‘She wants me to cough it all up?’ Declan thought, panic surging through his chest. ‘How am I even supposed to pull that off?’
‘Seriously, how am I supposed to pay back every penny?’ Fear gripped Declan as the reality hit him hard.
All these years… He and the Cooke family had only been able to survive by leaning on Sophie for absolutely everything.
If she really had to cough it all up…
Even if he sold off everything the Cooke family owned, there still wouldn’t be enough to pay her back.
“Sophie,” Sienna said, her voice crisp and calm as she reached out and tugged Sophie close. “Take it easy.”
She lowered her eyes, looking at Sophie’s furious little face, and gave her cheek a gentle squeeze. “He’s not worth getting this worked up over. Don’t let yourself get too riled up because of him.”
Sophie puffed out her cheeks and clung to Sienna’s arm even tighter, stubbornly refusing to give Declan another glance.
“Sophie…” Declan’s voice shook, sounding completely desperate.
He went sickly pale and slumped to the floor, panic written all over his face as he looked up at Sophie like she was his last hope like he was begging her not to abandon him.
He clung to that tiny chance. “We’ve been friends for more than ten years! Are you seriously gonna toss all that out because of someone who’s not even part of us?”
Sophie was so furious she was about to fire back at him.
But Sienna reached over and held onto her arm, her gaze cool and nonchalant as she looked down at Declan like she was miles above him. “Did you even notice Sophie spent over a week in the hospital?”
Declan’s eyes went wide, and he jerked his head toward Sophie. “She was in the hospital? What happened?”
Sienna snorted, her voice icy and mocking. “You call it ‘ten years of friendship, but you didn’t even know your ‘best friend’ was stuck in the hospital for more than a week? And you seriously want to use that so-called friendship to threaten Sophie?”
Declan’s face went red, his eyes darting with panic and regret. “Sophie, were you really in the hospital all this

time?”
‘Oh crap… so that’s what this is about, Declan thought as the truth hit him like a truck.
‘Is that why Sophie’s so ticked off at me?’ Guilt gnawed at his chest, making his heart pound.

‘She’s furious because I didn’t even bother to check on her for days…’ Declan realized, mentally kicking
himself.
‘She’s angry because I just left her alone in the hospital, didn’t even visit once… The guilt nearly swallowed him whole.
So that’s why Sophie’s giving me the cold shoulder!’ Declan realized with a jolt, feeling both panicked and a little relieved as the truth finally hit him.
‘If she’s still mad at me… That must mean she still cares, right?’ Declan tried to reassure himself, latching onto the thought like a lifeline.
‘Now that I know what’s really eating at her, it’ll be easy to coax her around!’ he thought cockily, already plotting his next move.
Declan stumbled to his feet and rushed over to Sophie, his voice full of desperate regret. “Sophie, I honestly didn’t know you were in the hospital! Come on, why didn’t you tell me anything? If you had, I swear I would’ve dropped everything and come running to take care of you. I wouldn’t have left you alone for a second.”
Declan reached for Sophie’s hand, his face twisted with concern but there was blame mixed in, clear as day. “Did your heart start acting up again? Why’d you come here if you’re not feeling well? And why mess around with those guys? What if you get too worked up and have another heart episode?”
He just kept talking over her, barely stopping for breath, throwing one anxious question after another until she couldn’t get a word in edgewise.
Even though he sounded worried, every sentence oozed blame. He just couldn’t stop himself from putting it all on Sophie.
Sophie let out a sharp, bitter laugh, the anger all over her face. “Oh, I told you alright. But you were too busy with Cora in your arms, partying with your buddies, to even notice!”
Declan’s face went pale. He honestly couldn’t remember Sophie ever telling him she’d been in the hospital.
Honestly, he’d never really paid much attention to what Sophie said or did. She was just there in the background.
Even when he ignored her, he never worried about it. She’d always come back to him in the end.
But he hadn’t seen this coming at all. He was totally blindsided.
This one stupid mistake had turned into a complete disaster.
Declan stammered, voice shaking with panic, “Sophie, I get it, I really messed up. From now on, I swear. I’ll
