From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 102

Last time Lily George was sick, she’d gone to see her—and casually brought the whole thing up.

Lily hadn’t exactly said no, but she made it clear Ethan Carter needed to agree himself.

It’d been nearly three weeks since then, and not a word from Ethan. That could only mean one thing: he wasn’t interested.

It really hadn’t been that long since her last visit, so there was no need to rush back and bring it up again. She didn’t want to keep making trips to the Carter estate—or bump into Adelina Lane, for that matter.

“I’m telling you, Mom, it’s urgent.” Daisy Dale plopped down next to Shirley Carter, clutching her arm. “What if someone else swoops in? Catherine would be devastated!”

Shirley just looked at her daughter with a hint of exasperation. “Why are you so worked up about this?”

“I’m not! I mean, not for me. I just care about Catherine. Besides, didn’t you say it yourself? If Ethan and Catherine get together, it’s a win-win for our families.”

Daisy sighed dramatically, chin tilted up in frustration. “You have no idea. I think I saw Ethan with another girl today. I didn’t tell Catherine the truth because she’d freak. But if we don’t do something soon, it might be too late!”

“You’re talking about Ethan Carter?” Shirley paused, eyeing her daughter suspiciously.

Daisy huffed, eyes wide. “Of course! Like I could ever mistake Ethan for someone else?”

Well, that was fair. Shirley gave a little “hmph,” and let it go. “Just hanging out doesn’t mean anything, you know.”

With Ethan Carter’s reputation, she doubted anyone could win him over so fast. Even if someone did, who knew if it would last? Young people, especially guys like Ethan from old money—having a girl or two around was nothing unusual. If there hadn’t been any rumors before, that would’ve been odd.

Daisy, seeing her mom’s indifference, grew even more anxious. “It’s not just hanging out—they were holding hands, Mom!”

She frowned, trying to get her mom to take it seriously. “And get this: his mom was there too! The three of them were having dinner at Savory & Grace. That’s not nothing.”

That caught Shirley off guard. She turned, suddenly focused. “Adelina Lane was there too?”

“Yeah.”

“You’re sure?”

Daisy crossed her arms, pouting. “Why does everyone think I’m making things up? I’m not blind. Mom, please, you promised Catherine you’d help her.”

But Shirley didn’t answer right away. Daisy glanced up to see her mom lost in thought, brows furrowed.

She waved a hand in front of Shirley’s face. “Mom? Earth to Mom. What are you thinking about?”

Shirley snapped out of it. “Alright, I get it.”

Daisy lit up. “So you’ll help?”

Shirley nodded, her eyes narrowing with a hint of mischief.

Daisy grinned. “Catherine’s going to be so happy.”

Shirley shot her a look. “You like Catherine that much?”

Daisy blinked, then nodded. “Of course.”
