From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 110

Lily George shot her a glance. "Bennett."

Shirley Carter racked her brain. "Bennett... I know there’s a Bennett family around here, but I’ve never heard of an Olivia Bennett. Are they—"

She didn’t get to finish before Lily cut her off. "Ethan likes her for who she is, not her family’s bank account. Who cares about pedigree? The Carters don’t need some fancy alliance. He can marry whoever he loves."

Shirley’s face stiffened, a crease of worry forming between her brows. "But if their backgrounds are so different, what if they have nothing in common? Different habits, different lives... That’s a recipe for trouble down the line."

"They seem just fine to me," Lily said, her tone turning a bit sharper. "Come on, they’re already married. As Ethan’s aunt, can’t you just wish them well?"

Shirley offered a sheepish smile. "I’m just worried about him, that’s all."

"Alright, enough about this." Lily’s tone made it clear she was done with the subject. "Since you’re here, stay for dinner. I made meatloaf and mashed potatoes."

Shirley glanced at Catherine Blair, who looked like she was about to burst into tears, and her expression shifted. "I better not. I just wanted to check in on you. Daisy’s waiting at home for dinner."

Lily didn’t try to persuade her. "Alright then."

No need to stir the pot any further.

Shirley had come with a whole list of things she wanted to say, but reality had shut her down before she even started.

She didn’t linger. After a quick check-in about Lily’s health, she grabbed Catherine and headed for the door.

They’d barely reached the porch when they spotted Jasper Lane and Ethan Carter heading toward the living room.

Shirley wasn’t a fan of Jasper, but she still had a healthy respect for Ethan—after all, he was the head of the Carter family.

She smoothed her expression and called out, "Ethan!"

Ethan gave her a nod, his face unreadable.
