Helen Adams absolutely couldn’t stand Lavinia Bennett.
Ever since that day, she’d only ever referred to her as “the wicked witch.”
Olivia Bennett just shook her head, half amused and half exasperated. “Yeah, I know.”
Helen let out a dramatic sigh, her lips twisting in a pout. “I really wish she wasn’t coming.”
Olivia poked her gently on the forehead. “Silly, she’s basically our golden goose. You should be hoping she gets here sooner rather than later.”
“But she’s awful. You’re so nice and she just walks all over you.”
Olivia felt a warm rush in her chest at Helen’s words, a little wave of gratitude that almost made her tear up.
She managed a lopsided smile. “I’m not just going to let her push me around, you know. It’s just a photo shoot. Anyway, we’re making good money off her—no harm done.”
Helen huffed, crossing her arms. “Well, I still don’t like her.”
Olivia grinned. “So don’t bother smiling at her later. And when I hand out bonuses with the money she pays us, you can take her cash and treat yourself to something nice. Bleed her dry.”
That made Helen laugh, hugging herself with a wicked gleam in her eye. “Fine, I’ll get all my smiles out now. When she walks in, I’ll be a total robot—no charm, no service, just stone cold. She can pay up and get nothing from me.”
Olivia was both touched and on the verge of bursting out laughing. She barely managed to keep a straight face as she nodded. “Deal. I’ll be counting on you.”
Helen puffed up her cheeks, making a cute little sound before the two of them shared a knowing look and disappeared into the back of the studio.
Around ten o’clock, a sleek black car pulled up outside.
Lavinia Bennett stepped out, arm-in-arm with Daniel Gill.
Daniel eyed the studio, a mixture of dread and regret knotting his stomach.
Lavinia, on the other hand, looked positively radiant with smug satisfaction. She tightened her grip on Daniel’s arm, her red lips curling into a wide smile. “Come on, darling. Let’s go in.”
Daniel’s arm was stiff as a board, and it took him a moment to start walking beside her.
