“Of course I told him off,” Nannie Bruce snorted. “Honestly, I didn’t even give Daniel Gill and Lavinia Bennett my full firepower earlier. If he messes with you again, I’ll march right down to Carter Enterprises every single day and call him out. I’ll go live on Instagram, tag all the news outlets, and let everyone in Cabinda see what kind of man he really is. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll just grab his kid and threaten him.”
“But…” Olivia Bennett’s eyes were clear and earnest. “That’s my kid too.”
Nannie Bruce deflated, sighing. “Fine, your kid is my kid. Just thinking about that little bundle, I can’t really do it. I’ll stick to yelling at him instead.”
“Not very committed,” Olivia commented.
Nannie Bruce waved her off. “Why should I be? What if I actually do kidnap your kid, and you and your husband team up to yell at me? That’d be a real backfire, wouldn’t it?”
Olivia shook her head, smiling. “I’d never do that.”
There would never come a day when Olivia would scold Nannie Bruce.
Nannie Bruce puckered her lips and blew a kiss across the room. “I knew you’d never abandon me.”
The two friends shared a look and burst into laughter.
Nannie Bruce flopped onto the couch, leaning back and staring at the ceiling with a sigh. “Can’t believe you’ve been through so much in the short time I’ve been gone.”
Not only married, but already with a kid.
Most people take years to pull that off. She managed it in just a few months—like she’d hopped onto a rocket.
Olivia let out a similar sigh, “Life’s unpredictable, huh?”
Even living through it herself, she hadn’t seen it coming—let alone Nannie Bruce.
Nannie clicked her tongue, turning to look at her. “But you’re something else, girl. Sleeping with Ethan Carter? That takes guts.”
