From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 160

“Shut up.” Ethan Carter’s jaw was clenched so tight you could practically see the vein throbbing on his forehead. He’d finally reached the end of his rope.

He cut Jasper off mid-sentence and didn’t even bother glancing his way—just stalked straight toward Olivia Bennett.

Jasper Lane was left standing there, totally stunned, gaping after Ethan’s retreating figure. All this tough love, and for what? For the guy who couldn’t see past his spreadsheets and deadlines—a workaholic robot if there ever was one.

If they weren’t practically brothers, Jasper wouldn’t have wasted his breath. What a waste of time and energy.

Fine, if Ethan wasn’t going to listen, he could deal with the fallout himself.

Jasper’s own irritation finally boiled over; he hollered, “Olivia, I’m outta here!”

He paused, then shouted, voice ringing with exaggerated drama, “Don’t you dare give in to the Dark Side!”

Olivia, halfway through her goodbye, froze with the words stuck in her throat.

She blinked, totally lost as she watched Jasper storm off. Did she hear that right? Dark Side? Give in?

She knew every word Jasper was saying, but stringed together, they made zero sense.

Shaking her head, she turned to see Ethan had already reached her side. “What was that all about?” she asked, curiosity winning out.

“No idea,” Ethan replied, his voice still tight as he glanced at her. “Let’s go.”

Olivia just nodded. “Alright.”

The car started up and rolled out of the parking lot, merging into the river of city traffic.

She glanced at Ethan in the driver’s seat—his eyes fixed ahead, his face unreadable.

Olivia opened her mouth, thought better of it, and just leaned her head against the window, watching the city lights blur by.

It was late autumn, and the sky was already sinking into darkness, even though it wasn’t that late. As they drove across the bridge, the streetlights flicked on one by one, casting golden halos over the road. Olivia found herself mesmerized, watching each pool of light slip past until the bridge was behind them.

She finally tore her gaze away and pulled out her phone.

A new message popped up from Nannie Bruce.

Nannie Bruce: So? Is Mr. Carter mad?

Olivia Bennett: Pretty sure he is.
