From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 168

They say there's always someone out there who can keep you in check, and it seemed Ethan Carter had finally met his match.

Olivia Bennett arched an eyebrow, a sly smile tugging at her lips. “Oh yeah?”

Adelina Lane grinned back at her over a plate of pasta. “Yeah. But hey, let’s eat. No more talking about him.”

Olivia shrugged. “Fine by me.”

——

Night had settled in, stars blinking over the small town.

Olivia Bennett waved goodnight to Adelina, then headed up to her room. She flopped onto the bed, pulled out her phone, and hesitated a second before finding Ethan Carter’s name on WhatsApp and firing off a quick message:

[What’s up?]

Two minutes passed. Nothing.

She rolled her eyes, tossed her phone onto the nightstand, and headed for a hot shower.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Ethan Carter had just gotten back to his hotel room. He dropped his suitcase on the floor, checked his phone, and saw Olivia’s message.

A smirk flashed across his face as he typed back:

[Just got back to the hotel.]

[What about you?]

He waited for a reply, but her side stayed quiet.

After a while, he tapped the screen, debating, then hit the call button. No answer.

His brow furrowed. He tried again, this time calling Adelina Lane.

She picked up on the second ring, her voice casual. “Calling me this late? Did you forget to say something?”

“Where’s Olivia?”

“She went up to her room. Why don’t you call her?”

“I did. She’s not picking up.”

Adelina chuckled. “She’s probably in the shower, or just busy. Give her a few minutes, I’ll go check on her.”
