From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 184

Carmen Gates spat on the ground, her glare sharp. “Elaine’s just a little tramp, that’s all she is. She thinks she’s hot shit now that she’s landed herself with the Carter family—please! She just got lucky, used her looks to reel Ethan Carter in. Once he gets bored, she’ll be yesterday’s news. And when she comes crawling back to us? Oh, I’ll make sure she regrets it. Ugh, I hate seeing nobodies act like they’re all that.”

“Enough, Carmen,” Mason Bennett snapped, his voice cutting through her rant. “You’re making it worse.”

Carmen blinked, thrown off by his tone, but she just scowled and crossed her arms. “I’m just venting, Mason. You want me to bottle it up and explode?”

She huffed, her frustration leaking out in every word. “Look at that bitch—she’s got the Carters and the Bakers backing her up, and she can’t even bother to look us in the eye. Bet she’s laughing at us behind our backs.”

Lavinia Bennett, listening, frowned deeply.

She just couldn’t wrap her head around it.

How on earth did Olivia Bennett end up in Ethan Carter’s orbit?

Mason glanced over at the sprawling Carter estate, his eyes narrowing. “From now on, be nice to Olivia. Keep your attitude in check.”

Carmen gawked. “You want me to play nice with that bitch?”

Mason’s tone was icy. “You don’t get it. As long as we keep Olivia close, we’re in with the Carters and the Bakers. That’s worth more than anything you could hustle for in ten years.”

All it took was dropping Ethan Carter’s name.

Who wouldn’t give them some respect then?

No more begging for favors.

Carmen hesitated, chewing her lip. “But you saw her—she acts like we’re invisible.”

“She doesn’t care now, but that could change. She’s just one Olivia. Treat her well, look out for her, and she’ll come around.”

Carmen grumbled, “Fine, I’ll be nice to her—”

Mason shot her a look. “And watch your mouth. No more calling her a bitch, got it?”

Carmen rolled her eyes. “Old habits die hard.”
