From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 191

The light filled every corner of the living room.

Lavinia Bennett nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw someone on the couch. She let out a shaky breath as she realized it was just Daniel Gill, not some burglar.

She pressed a hand to her chest, slipped off her boots, and frowned as she walked over. “Why’re you sitting here in the dark?”

Her voice snapped Daniel out of his thoughts. He glanced up at Lavinia, but no trace of a smile touched his face.

“Just needed to sit for a bit. Didn’t feel like turning the lights on,” he said, his voice flat and distant.

Lavinia immediately sensed something was off. “What’s wrong?”

She sat down beside him, noticing how tired he looked. Reaching for his hand, she gasped. “Oh my God—what happened to your hand?”

His knuckles were scraped and split, blood seeping out and the skin a little swollen.

Daniel just shrugged, as if he couldn’t even feel the pain. “Banged it against the wall. Just clumsy, I guess.”

“Clumsy? Daniel, come on.” Lavinia sighed, exasperated. “And you didn’t even bother to put anything on it?”

She stood up and grabbed the first aid kit from the hall closet.

She cleaned his hand with rubbing alcohol, dabbed on some ointment, then wrapped it carefully with a bandage.

“Try not to get it wet for a while,” she said, putting the kit away. She raised an eyebrow at him. “With a hand like this, you’re not going to be doing much. Looks like I’ll have to stay here and take care of you for a bit.”

“No need. Susan can handle the cooking and cleaning. It’s all taken care of.” Daniel glanced at her, clearly trying to change the subject. “Weren’t you at the Bakers’ dinner party tonight? How’d you get back so soon?”

The mention of the party darkened Lavinia’s face. A mix of anger and relief flickered in her eyes.
