Olivia Bennett looked into his eyes, nodded, and let out a single word, barely more than a breath. "Yeah."
Her voice was soft—like a violin bow gliding gently across strings, stirring something deep inside.
Ethan Carter’s dark eyes were burning with something fierce. In the next instant, his hand cradled the back of Olivia’s head as he leaned in, pressing his lips gently, but urgently, to hers.
Olivia’s lashes fluttered, and as Ethan kept kissing her, she slowly let her eyes fall shut, surrendering to the moment.
She had no idea how long they stayed like that, but eventually he pulled away, holding her close against his chest.
“Why didn’t you just say it earlier?” he murmured.
Olivia was still catching her breath, but her words were stubborn and proud as ever. “Didn’t feel like it.”
Ethan frowned. “Did I do something to upset you?”
She just gave a little huff, turning her face away.
Realization dawned in Ethan’s eyes. He tried again, voice low and gentle, “When did I make you mad?”
He sounded almost apologetic.
Olivia’s heart felt like it was being tugged by invisible strings. She shook her head and explained softly, “You didn’t make me mad.”
Honestly, if he had, she’d be giving him the cold shoulder for days.
“Then why didn’t you want to say it?” Ethan kept his eyes locked on hers, coaxing her softly.
Olivia bit her lip for a second before finally mumbling, “I already said it before. No point repeating myself.”
Ethan blinked, thrown off. “You already said it?”
Olivia slipped out of his arms and sat down on the couch, giving him a look that was equal parts annoyed and accusing. “I told you yesterday. You just didn’t listen.”
She looked like someone about to hold a grudge until Thanksgiving.
Ethan was totally lost. “Was it after we went to bed last night?”
Olivia nodded.
He let out a quiet laugh, reaching over to tuck a stray piece of hair behind her ear. “What, you were too shy to say it until I’d fallen asleep?”
