From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 204

Mason Bennett had said this so many times, her mother could practically recite it in her sleep. The minute she opened her mouth, it was always the same rant, word for word.

Lavinia Bennett hated that more than anything.

She scowled, unable to shake off her irritation, and muttered, “Seriously, one person gets lucky and suddenly the whole family thinks they’re royalty. Just thinking about her makes me sick—oh, and now she’s allergic to blueberries and grapes? Give me a break.”

“If I’d known she’d act like this, I wouldn’t have bothered with any of the preparations. Let her leave if she wants! But no, we keep begging her to stay, over and over. God knows what she’s really thinking about us.”

Carmen Gates looked uneasy. “Alright, enough. Let’s not talk about it.”

“I can’t help it. It just pisses me off.”

“Well, keep it to yourself.” Mason Bennett walked in with a stern face, his gaze sharp. “From now on, if Olivia Bennett’s around, you better bite your tongue—especially when Ethan Carter’s there, too.”

Lavinia shrank back a little. She’d always been a bit wary of Mason. Her eyes flickered, but she didn’t argue.

Instead, she made a mental note to blame all of this on Olivia.

She’d just wait. One day, Ethan Carter would dump her. When that happened, let’s see how high and mighty she’d act. Lavinia would be there, ready to rub it in her face.

“So what do we do now?” Carmen frowned at Mason. “Elaine doesn’t look like she’s changing her mind at all.”

Mason flopped onto the couch with a sigh. “What’s the rush? No one expected her to give in tonight, but at least we made our position clear in front of Ethan Carter. The rest will happen in time. Sometimes you have to let things simmer—slow and steady, like boiling a frog. Eventually, it gets done. The Carter family isn’t going anywhere. There’s plenty of time to build that bridge.”

Carmen nodded, reluctantly convinced.

Lavinia looked like she’d just bitten into a lemon.

She sank onto the sofa, grabbed a toothpick, and stabbed a grape, popping it into her mouth with a vengeance, as if it were Olivia herself she was chewing on.

Mason shot her a warning look. “Don’t forget what I told you.”
