From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 206

Her eyes clouded over with tears again. “It’s Grandma’s handwriting.”

Ethan Carter brushed his thumb gently beneath her eye. “She wanted you to be happy, you know.”

Olivia Bennett blinked quickly, trying to push the tears back. She ran her fingertips over the faded words. “This wasn’t here before. She must’ve written it just a few days before she passed. After she was gone, they locked up the room we used to share. I never got to see any of this until now.”

She looked down, her voice barely more than a whisper. “The thing I remember Grandma saying to me the most was ‘I’m sorry.’ I think she felt guilty, like she owed me something. But to me, she gave me everything she possibly could.”

“You have no idea,” Olivia went on, her breath hitching, “she’d always scrimp and save, patch her old winter coat, wear shoes till they nearly fell apart, just so she could give me the best of everything. She even hid away a savings account for me, put aside every spare penny she could. She knew Mason Bennett and the others wouldn’t treat me right, so she was always planning for me.”

Ethan didn’t know what to say. He just pulled her gently into his arms. “Your grandma loved you so much. She’d want you to be happy, Liv. She definitely wouldn’t want to see you this sad.”

Olivia wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her face in his chest.

This time, there were no tears.

“I’ll be okay,” she whispered.

Ethan nodded, holding her close. “She knows. She’d be so glad to see you happy.”

“I think so too.” Olivia smiled faintly, stepping back and carefully tucking the keepsakes back into the box. “I used to worry they’d thrown all her things away, but thank God, they didn’t.”

“Let’s put this in your office,” Ethan suggested.

“Yeah,” Olivia agreed.

These were memories that belonged to her and her grandma alone.

This time, she’d protect them with everything she had.

The weather was getting colder by the day.

Within a couple of days, Olivia was already bundled up in her thick winter coat.

With the baby on the way, she’d started letting go of most of the work at her studio.

But that didn’t mean she was just sitting around. She’d put up a job posting and found two new girls online. After chatting with them both at the studio, she decided to let them try out for a month.

She handed them off to Davina Ford to show them the ropes.
