From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 21

She ran her fingers over the ring, letting out a soft, almost inaudible sigh.

Ethan Carter pulled his hand back, absentmindedly rubbing his thumb and forefinger together. His voice was low and calm. “If you love it, it’s worth every penny.”

Huh?

Olivia Bennett had only meant to comment, but his words made her cheeks flush with unexpected heat.

But seeing Ethan’s steady, composed expression, her fluttering heart gradually settled down.

Jeez, for a second, she almost thought Ethan Carter was flirting with her.

Guys like him, born with a silver spoon and family money, probably just genuinely believed that 2.5 million dollars wasn’t a big deal.

“Two and a half million, Ethan. I don’t care how much I love it—it’s still crazy expensive.” She tried to sound as firm as possible.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. If it’s perfect, no price is too high.”

He barely finished before Olivia could overthink, pulling her closer and striding away with purpose.

“Let’s go home.”

A flicker of emotion flashed in Olivia’s eyes—gone before anyone could notice.

Sure, the ring was ridiculously expensive, but what mattered more to her was everything Ethan had done for her.

She couldn’t shake the worry that she’d never be able to give him something equally meaningful in return.

Lost in thoughts about the ring, Olivia didn’t even realize how natural it felt to have Ethan’s arm around her.

As the two of them walked off, they didn’t notice Lavinia Bennett and Daniel Gill approaching from the other direction.

Lavinia was all smiles, her hand looped through Daniel’s arm, leaning in playfully. “You finally have some free time! Remember, after we pick out the rings, you promised to come shopping for clothes with me.”

“Hmm?”

When Daniel didn’t answer, Lavinia glanced up at him in confusion.

“Oh, okay,” Lavinia said, not thinking much of it. With a bright smile, she dragged him toward the shop. “Let’s pick out our rings first.”

Daniel followed her inside, still a little distracted.

“Good afternoon! Are you and Miss here to shop for wedding rings?” The sales assistant greeted them with a wide, practiced smile.

Lavinia barely glanced at the display case before pointing at a few designs, her voice cool and direct. “Can you show me these?”

The assistant quickly obliged, laying the selected rings out on the velvet tray.

Lavinia looked them over—they all seemed pretty similar. She shook Daniel’s right hand, adopting a playful tone. “Which one do you like best?”

Without hesitation, Daniel replied, “Any of them. Whatever makes you happy.”

Lavinia eyed his tense, handsome face, pursing her lips in annoyance. “Seriously, Daniel? You’re totally distracted. What’s going on in that head of yours?”

She watched him closely, searching his eyes for answers.
