Olivia Bennett couldn’t hide her surprise as she recognized the two people standing before her.
Weren’t they just the ones she’d seen yesterday? Damian Franklin and Beatty.
Beatty, who had been half-hiding behind Damian, immediately lit up the moment she spotted Olivia. Grinning from ear to ear, she hurried over, barely able to contain her excitement. “Olivia! It’s Olivia!”
Olivia offered her a polite smile. “You remember me?”
Beatty nodded enthusiastically. “Of course! Olivia is nice. I like Olivia…”
Her entire face was aglow, eyes shining with the purest, most innocent affection.
Lance Carter looked genuinely surprised. “You know each other?”
Damian stepped forward, gently guiding Beatty to stand by his side as he explained, “Beatty wandered into Olivia’s art studio yesterday. Olivia was kind enough to help me get her back.”
“Small world, huh?” Lance grinned, then turned to the group and made the introductions. “This is Damian Franklin—a friend from back in my Clarksville days. He’s in Cabinda for some business right now.”
Adelina Lane, Elaine Carter, and Lily George all nodded in recognition. They’d heard the name before—Lance had met Damian during one of his business trips to Clarksville when he still ran The Carter Group.
After their first meeting, Lance wouldn’t stop talking about how well they’d hit it off.
Ethan Carter, who often traveled for work as well, had gotten to know Damian through Lance and considered him a close acquaintance too.
After a round of friendly greetings, Adelina invited Damian and Beatty to sit down and join everyone.
Beatty tugged at Damian’s sleeve, pouting. “I want to sit with Olivia…”
Olivia glanced at the empty chair to her right—Ethan Carter was seated to her left. “She can sit here,” Olivia offered.
Damian thanked her and let Beatty sit down next to Olivia, but not without a gentle warning, “No pestering Olivia, or you’ll have to move.”
Beatty nodded seriously. “Beatty will be good, I promise.”
She folded her hands in her lap and sat perfectly still.
Olivia couldn’t help but smile.
Beatty turned to her, puzzled for a moment, then beamed back just as brightly.
