Olivia Bennett had been thinking the same thing herself.
Adelina Lane’s eyes lit up as she said, “Why don’t you move in over here, Olivia? Ethan’s always at the Carter Group during the day. You’d be bored at home alone, but if you stay here, you’ll have me and Grandma for company. I could tag along if you need to go out for anything, and honestly, it’ll be a lot more convenient than you rattling around by yourself.”
Lily George, her grandmother, nodded in agreement. “That sounds like a great idea.”
Olivia didn’t answer right away. She glanced over at Ethan Carter, searching his face.
“It’s up to you,” Ethan said, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. “If you move in, I’ll come over too.”
Truthfully, he hoped she would. Like Adelina had said, he was out so much of the time, and he worried about her being alone. Knowing Adelina and Grandma would be around to keep her company gave him peace of mind.
But in the end, it was Olivia’s choice.
Without any more hesitation, Olivia thought for a moment and then nodded. “Alright, let’s do it.”
Adelina beamed. “If you need anything, let me know. I’ll have someone run out to Hill’s Grocery and pick it up for you.”
Olivia laughed. “No rush! There’s no need to get everything at once.”
Adelina was so enthusiastic, Olivia almost worried she’d have the whole place redecorated before dinner.
Ethan said, “I’ll take care of it.” His tone left no room for argument, and Adelina relented with a gentle smile.
A housekeeper arrived with a tray of fresh fruit and snacks—strawberries, grapes, little tea cookies.
Olivia’s eyes landed on the strawberries, and before she could reach for one, Ethan picked one up and held it out to her. She grinned and took a bite, her eyes crinkling in pleasure.
Ethan watched her, lips curving into a smile. “Is it that good?”
Olivia nodded. “It’s really sweet.”
“Let me try.” He grabbed one himself and popped it into his mouth.
