From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 245

"Have you ever thought about why, if she and I can’t stand each other, she’d go out of her way to help you?"

"I’ve told you, she’s the queen of fake kindness. She knows how much you mean to me, and if she’s helping you, it’s only to get under my skin. She wants to see me miserable." Shirley Carter’s eyes were wild as she stared at her daughter. "You’re my daughter, Daisy. Don’t let her mess with your head."

Something about her mom’s expression was…unsettling. Daisy Dale had never seen her like this before. It made her nervous.

"I get it, Mom," Daisy said, shrinking back a little. "Let’s not talk about her anymore, okay?"

Shirley took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "Daisy, I’m your mother. I would never do anything to hurt you. Not ever."

"I know," Daisy replied quickly, nodding like a good kid. She glanced at Shirley before saying, "I’m a little tired, Mom. I think I’ll go upstairs and rest for a bit."

Shirley gave her a long, searching look, then waved her hand. "Go ahead."

Daisy turned away, heading up the stairs at a slow pace. At the landing, she looked back.

Shirley was slumped on the couch, eyes closed, her whole body tense and wrapped in some invisible, angry storm. She looked furious.

Daisy bit her lip, helpless.

Her mom had always doted on her, she knew that—and she hated the idea of making Shirley sad.

But honestly, Adelina Lane really had helped her today. Daisy had never really talked to Adelina before, but from what she’d seen, maybe Adelina wasn’t as bad as her mom made her out to be.

And Ethan’s wife was nice, too. She honestly seemed like a good person.

Daisy’s lashes lowered. She stood at the top of the stairs for a second more, then quietly disappeared into her room.

Her footsteps faded, leaving the living room in a silence that felt heavy and cold.

No one knows how long Shirley sat there before she finally opened her eyes. The beautiful blue in them was clouded now, eaten up by something furious and cold.

Adelina Lane.

It wasn’t enough that she’d stolen everyone’s affection and attention—now even Daisy was starting to side with her.

Her own daughter. The one she’d carried for nine months, raised, loved. Was she losing her too?

No. She would not let that happen.

If Adelina wanted to take everything from her, then she wasn’t going to let Adelina get away with it.

Shirley’s hand clenched into a fist, her knuckles white against the armrest. Her face hardened with determination.
