"Hi, Mrs. Carter, I’m Calvin Brown."
Olivia Bennett gave a polite, warm smile as she introduced herself. "Hello, I’m Olivia Bennett."
Calvin grinned, tucking a towel over his arm. "So, Mrs. Carter, are we looking for a new style today, or just a trim?"
"Let’s just go short," Olivia replied.
"Got it," Calvin nodded, leading her further into the cozy salon.
He washed Olivia’s hair, chatting lightly about the weather and the latest football scores, before settling her in front of the big, bright mirror.
Calvin glanced over at Ethan Carter, who was standing nearby, arms folded, watching the whole process with the intensity of a hawk eyeing a steak. The guy didn’t say a word, but his focus was enough to make anyone nervous.
Calvin cleared his throat. "Mr. Carter, we have a lounge over there, if you’d like to sit and relax. There’s fresh coffee and some homemade brownies."
But Ethan shook his head. "No, thanks. I’ll just wait here."
Calvin tried to hide his anxiety and turned back to Olivia. She squeezed Ethan’s hand. "Go on and sit down, I’ll be done soon. Maybe I’ll surprise you."
Ethan looked at her for a moment, his gaze softening. "Alright," he said finally, and walked off toward the lounge.
Calvin let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding.
"So, Mrs. Carter," he asked, smiling as he picked up his scissors, "what kind of cut did you have in mind?"
Olivia studied her reflection. "Let’s go for a choppy bob, about collarbone length, with some French bangs."
Calvin snapped his fingers. "Perfect choice!"
Cutting hair was second nature to him—he’d done styles for everyone from high schoolers to movie stars.
Twenty minutes later, Calvin set down the hairdryer and looked at Olivia in the mirror. "What do you think, Mrs. Carter? Happy with it?"
