From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 290

The first thing out of his mouth was “Olivia Bennett”—not a single word of congratulations or praise for his own daughter.

Carmen Gates let out a sigh. “You know your dad, Lavinia. Everything is about Carter Enterprises.”

Lavinia Bennett scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Of course it is. Carter Enterprises is his whole world. My own wedding’s just another networking event to him. He couldn’t even bother to say congrats. If he thinks Olivia Bennett is so amazing, maybe he should just go adopt her instead.”

That last part was pure, angry nonsense, and everyone in the room knew it.

Carmen’s brows pinched together, her expression quietly resigned. She understood all too well—if Olivia Bennett ever gave the word, Mason Bennett would be thrilled to have her for a daughter.

But there was nothing she could do about it. She just tried to soothe Lavinia. “Look, one day, Carter Enterprises will be yours. Your dad’s working this hard so you can have an easier life when it’s your turn. Just think—a life like this, the house, the vacations, the summer trips to Martha’s Vineyard—you wouldn’t have it if it weren’t for Carter Enterprises.”

Lavinia swallowed hard, a lump in her throat.

She bit her lip, voice softer now. “I just hate the way he says things sometimes.”

“If it bothers you, just pretend he never said it,” Carmen said, her tone warm and affectionate. “Today, you don’t have to worry about anything. Just be a beautiful bride, okay?”

Lavinia pressed her lips together and nodded. “Okay.”

Carmen smiled. “Wait here for a bit. I’m going to check downstairs. When Daniel gets here, I’ll come back up.”

“Alright.”

With that, Carmen swept out of the room, leaving Lavinia alone in the quiet, sunlit bedroom.

She stared at her reflection in the mirror—gorgeous, flawless, in her white gown and lace veil. She made a face, jealousy flickering in her eyes.

Whatever. Just a little longer.

Today was her special day. She’d marry Daniel Gill, be happy, and Olivia Bennett would just have to watch. And as long as she and Daniel were happy, she could wait. Wait for the day Ethan Carter finally dumped Olivia Bennett.

When that day came, she’d make sure Olivia knew exactly how it felt to be humiliated—just like she’d been at Franklin’s party.

Let Olivia enjoy her moment now. It wouldn’t last.

After all, it’s the one grinning at the end who really wins.
