She explained gently, “The mother passed out from exhaustion, but she’ll be out soon. Just needs a little rest and she’ll wake up.”
Hearing this, Adelina Lane and the other two visibly relaxed, letting out a breath they didn’t realize they were holding.
Adelina’s eyes sparkled as she gazed at the newborn, joy radiating from her face. “Our baby… Look how adorable she is!”
Damian Franklin grinned, “She looks just like Olivia.”
Lance Carter chimed in, “I think she’s got Ethan’s features.”
Adelina rolled her eyes at both of them, amused. “She’s practically a burrito—how can you tell who she looks like?”
“Sure I can,” Lance insisted. “Ethan looked exactly like this when he was born. All wrinkly and red.”
Damian nodded in agreement. “Olivia was the same, like a little raisin.”
Adelina just shook her head. “All newborns look like that right after they’re born.”
The nurse, who’d been listening, added with a smile, “She’s been soaking in amniotic fluid for a while. Give her some time, she’ll plump up and look more like herself soon.”
Adelina turned back to the guys. “See? Told you.”
Lance and Damian just nodded, their eyes glued to the baby, hearts absolutely melting.
The nurse gently said, “I’ll take the baby to get her cleaned up now.”
None of them wanted to let go, but they nodded, reluctantly watching as the nurse carried the baby out of the room.
………………
Late at night.
Olivia Bennett was wheeled into her private room, still unconscious from the delivery.
Damian Franklin was torn about leaving his daughter, but after some urging from Adelina and the others, he finally agreed to head home for some rest. Before leaving, he gave Ethan Carter a few last-minute instructions.
Adelina stayed by Olivia’s bedside.
