From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 333

Ethan Carter saw it and instinctively reached for her hand, holding it tight.

Olivia Bennett looked at him, her eyes shimmering with worry. “Are you crazy? I’m just relieved you’re okay. Do you have any idea how I lost it when I heard about the accident yesterday?”

She swallowed hard, her voice trembling. “Compared to your safety, my pain is nothing.”

Hearing her words, her voice shaky with leftover fear, made Ethan’s guilt well up even more. It felt like her words just wrapped around his heart, squeezing it tight. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles gently. “You’ve been through enough.”

Olivia just shook her head, silent.

Ethan was about to say something when a sudden noise from the living room startled them both.

Olivia jumped, her voice uneasy. “What was that?”

Ethan glanced toward the couch, reassuring her, “Don’t worry, it’s just Mom over there.”

Right on cue, Adelina Lane’s slightly raspy voice called out, “Is Olivia awake?”

“She’s up,” Ethan replied.

At his words, Adelina’s last traces of sleep vanished. She hurried to Olivia’s bedside, concern etched on her face.

“How are you feeling, honey? Anything hurting?” Her tone was full of motherly worry.

Olivia’s voice was weak, but her words were clear. “I’m okay, Mom. Really. No need to worry.”

The hospital room was still dim, and Olivia couldn’t see their faces, so she said to Ethan, “Can you open the curtains, please?”

Ethan got up and drew the curtains back. Sunlight flooded the room, chasing away the gloom.

Olivia squinted, her eyes adjusting to the brightness, and then she finally opened them wide.

Ethan was already back at her side.

In the darkness, she hadn’t noticed, but now that the sun was up, Olivia could see the dark circles under Ethan’s eyes and the exhaustion carved into his face. Panic crept into her voice. “You didn’t sleep last night, did you?”

“I did,” Ethan replied quickly.
