So when she heard Lance Carter talking about it this morning, she’d rushed over, barely taking the time to grab her coat.

Ethan Carter tried to reassure her, “It’s alright. Really.”

Lily George lowered her gaze, checking the scene for herself.

Carey lay peacefully, cheeks rosy, not a care in the world—honestly, she looked just fine.

Lily finally relaxed, letting out a tiny sigh of relief. Then she turned to Olivia Bennett, worry etched in her weathered eyes. “How about you, Olivia? Are you okay?”

“I’m fine too,” Olivia replied, managing a tired smile.

“When your dad called me, I thought I’d have a heart attack. Thank goodness everyone’s okay,” Lily muttered, then looked at Ethan again. “And you, Ethan?”

Ethan nodded. “I’m alright too.”

His voice was steady, and though he looked exhausted, there was nothing obviously wrong with him.

Lily finally exhaled, really letting herself breathe for the first time since she’d arrived.

Adelina Lane noticed how shaken she was, her breath ragged from the dash over. “Mom, come sit for a bit. I’ll get you a glass of water. Catch your breath before you check on the baby.”

Lily didn’t argue, gratefully letting Adelina guide her to a chair.

Just then, Damian Franklin came barreling in, grabbing hold of Beatty before she could charge across the room and disturb Olivia.

Beatty shot him a look, wriggling in his grip. “Damian, let go! I wanna see the baby!”

Damian met her gaze, firm but gentle. “Don’t mess around, okay? No poking the baby, no pestering Olivia. You can look, but behave.”

Beatty huffed. “You’ve said that a million times.”

“Well, can you actually listen this time?” he asked, still not letting go.

Beatty rolled her eyes, then, with a dramatic sigh, nodded. “Fine, I’ll be good.”

Damian finally released her.

She bolted to the bedside like a wild pony set free, peering curiously at the tiny baby in Ethan’s arms.
