From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 337

Damian Franklin suddenly felt a sharp sting of emotion prick at his eyes.

He looked down at the tiny baby in his arms, paused to collect himself, and all that bittersweet ache melted into a deep well of love and joy.

Beatty leaned in close, eyes wide with wonder. “She’s so tiny.”

“She sure is,” Damian replied, his voice gentle. “That’s why we have to be really careful—no wiggling or bouncing around.”

Lily George, watching from the side, piped up, “How much does she weigh?”

“About six pounds,” Olivia Bennett answered.

Damian raised his eyebrows. “That’s just about what you weighed when you were born.”

Olivia’s eyes flew wide in surprise.

Damian went on, “You were just as small as Carey is now—a little bundle. Honestly, I was terrified to hold you at first.”

He smiled, a soft nostalgia in his eyes, as if those memories were right there in the room with them.

Olivia paused, then grinned. “You’re holding Carey like a pro now, Dad.”

Damian chuckled. “Well, I had plenty of practice with you. I noticed Ethan still looks a little nervous holding her.”

He shot Ethan Carter a teasing look.

Ethan didn’t deny it. “I feel just like you did—I’m scared I’ll do it wrong.”

Damian laughed. “Give it a couple of days. Every new parent goes through this.”

Ethan nodded, relieved someone understood.

Beatty, still listening, looked thoughtful. She edged closer. “Can I hold her too?”

Damian’s nerves kicked in. “Not yet, Beatty. When she’s a little bigger, you’ll get your turn.”

Beatty pouted, looking up at him with pleading eyes. “Why not?”

Damian hesitated—he didn’t want to say she might not be gentle enough. Instead, he searched for an excuse. “If we pass her around too much, she might get uncomfortable and cry.”

Beatty frowned, clearly unconvinced.

Just as she opened her mouth to argue, Carey’s lips quivered—and then, out of nowhere, she let out a wail.

Beatty froze, guilt written all over her face.

Everyone in the room tensed up.

Olivia looked over, worry creasing her brow.

Adelina Lane hurried over. “Let me check—maybe she needs a diaper change or she’s hungry?”
