From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 34

She wasn’t surprised that Lavinia wouldn’t let it go. But she hadn’t expected her to actually have the nerve to keep stirring things up.

God only knew how many times Lavinia had pulled crap like this behind her back.

Olivia Bennett scoffed, a cold smirk curling on her lips. It was clear as day that Lavinia had absolutely no clue how Daniel Gill had been harassing her lately.

Thinking of Daniel’s relentless attitude, Olivia fixed her gaze on Lavinia and asked, “One blurry photo—can’t even tell who’s in it—and you’ve decided I’m the one chasing after him? Why don’t you admit it’s the other way around, that he’s the one bothering me?”

Lavinia shot her a look that screamed, “Are you out of your mind?” She cocked an eyebrow and spoke in that haughty tone of hers, “Oh please. As if Daniel would ever chase you. You really think highly of yourself, huh? He literally stood by while you got humiliated by some random guy at that frat party. What on earth makes you think he’d come crawling after you? What do you even have that he’d want?”

Olivia’s face went pale.

That night was still a raw nerve—something she hadn’t managed to move past.

Seeing her discomfort, Lavinia just grinned wider, her lips curling with smug satisfaction. “You know, the worst thing is not knowing your place. If you could just keep your head down and behave, I might pretend not to notice. But if you keep reaching for things that aren’t yours, don’t blame me for putting you in your place.”

Olivia glanced down at her shoes, not angry, but almost amused by how predictable Lavinia was.

She looked up at her rival, a faint, sardonic smile playing at her lips. Her voice was cool. “I don’t make a habit of going back to my exes. If you’re so worried I’ll ‘steal him,’ then maybe you should keep a closer eye on him yourself.”

She wasn’t interested in arguing anymore.

She knew Lavinia too well—once she’d made up her mind, there was no point trying to reason with her. Anything Olivia said would just sound like pointless excuses.

“Don’t tell me you actually thought Daniel ever liked you? He told me the only reason he dated you was because you looked so pathetic he felt bad for you. That’s it. He never felt anything for you but pity and maybe a little guilt.”

“Most of the time, you just annoyed him. But he was too polite to say it. He’s been so much happier since you’re out of his life.”

“So do yourself a favor—stop dreaming. Daniel’s out of your league. What could you possibly offer him? With me, he’s finally becoming the man he’s meant to be. After all, not everyone gets to reach for the stars.”

Lavinia tutted, then tossed the book at Olivia as if it was something dirty. “Here. Take it back. Maybe it’ll remind you of your place every time you look at it.”
