From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 46

Adelina Lane’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “Alright, that’s enough, stop teasing me. I give up—just spill it already. What’s got you looking like that? It’s late, and you still rushed over here just to tell me?”

Jasper Lane let out a dramatic sigh, finally giving up on making her guess.

Let’s be real—she could keep guessing until tomorrow night and still never get it right.

Honestly, if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed it either: Ethan Carter, of all people, secretly dating someone? No way.

He took a deep breath, trying to make it seem as important as possible. He even gave a little cough, cleared his throat, really milking the moment.

Adelina just raised an eyebrow, watching the performance with clear skepticism.

Finally, meeting her gaze, Jasper got serious. “Ethan’s got a girlfriend.”

Silence.

Utter, absolute silence.

There was no dramatic reaction, no jaw dropping, not even a raised eyebrow from Adelina. She acted like she hadn’t heard a thing.

Jasper scratched his head, suddenly doubting himself.

Wait, wasn’t she supposed to leap up in shock, stare at him for a solid minute, and then bombard him with questions about whether he was for real?

Instead, his big reveal landed with a thud. All that anticipation fizzled out, and he felt deflated, like a wilted salad left out at a summer picnic.

He stared at her. “Adelina, aren’t you even a little bit surprised? Did you already know?”

The moment he said it, he dismissed the idea. No way. If Adelina had known something this huge, there’s no chance she’d have kept it from him.

Adelina popped a grape into her mouth, looking as chill as ever. “Where’d you hear that rumor?”

“I swear, it was him. He parked in his usual spot—no one else ever parks there. If it wasn’t him, then someone’s messing with the universe.”

Finally, Adelina’s expression changed. She looked up, something unreadable flickering in her eyes.

Her tone sharpened. “You’re sure?”

“Positive!” Jasper said, pulling out his phone. “Oh, I almost forgot—I snapped a picture.”

He tapped at his phone, trying to unlock it, but the screen stayed black, just reflecting his own face back at him.

He frowned, tried again. Still just black.

Adelina’s eyes flicked over, a hint of curiosity finally breaking through.
