From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 59

“I’m really sorry for all the trouble I caused you today. As compensation, we’ll give you 50% off your bill, and next time you come in, we’ll make sure you get a discount too. Does that sound fair?” Olivia Bennett said, her tone full of genuine apology.

Adelina Lane studied Olivia with a look of growing satisfaction. She had been ready to stand up for her, but it seemed Olivia was perfectly capable of handling things herself.

The thought of Lavinia Bennett bragging about a million-dollar loss and trying to save face made Adelina want to laugh. But what pleased her most was seeing that Olivia wasn’t stuck dwelling on the past.

With a kind smile, Adelina waved a hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about it, really. No harm done. I didn’t lose anything, so there’s no need for you to give me a discount.”

She added, “Honestly, I only said something because I didn’t want you taking my picture while upset. What I said to her was for my own peace of mind, not because of you. You don’t need to feel responsible.”

Adelina had done her homework before coming in. The more she thought about Olivia’s tough background, the more she felt a pang of sympathy. No wonder Ethan Carter had made that remark about her not having any family.

Olivia blinked, feeling a bit confused. There was something odd about Adelina—she’d been on her side since the moment she arrived, and now she looked at her almost… motherly.

Probably just my imagination, Olivia thought. Maybe she’s just a really nice person.

She shook her head, brushing off the odd feelings, and insisted, “No, really, let me give you the discount. It was our mistake, and I’d feel better if I could make it up to you.”

Seeing how determined Olivia was, Adelina gave in. In her mind, she thought: Well, we’re practically family anyway. When Ethan Carter brings her home, I’ll give her a proper welcome—maybe a big Christmas bonus or something.

She nodded. “All right, if it makes you feel better. Thank you.”

“It’s no trouble at all!” Olivia grinned, then hesitated, “By the way, your last name is Lane, right?”

“That’s right.”

“Adelina, then? If everything looks good, let’s get started—I don’t want to keep you waiting.”

Olivia led her to the makeup area.

Adelina looked around, puzzled. “Is it really just you doing the makeup and the photos?”

“Oh, no,” Olivia shook her head. “One of our makeup artists is out on a location shoot, and the other’s off today. But don’t worry, I’ve got it covered. When I first started out, I did everything myself.”

“If you want, I can do a trial look, and if you’re not happy, you can tell me. No pressure.”

She was eager to please, not wanting Adelina to be disappointed.

Adelina’s voice softened. “It’s not that I don’t trust your skills—I’m just worried you’re working too hard, doing all this by yourself.”
