From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 7

Olivia Bennett’s eyes dropped to the ground, helpless. After weighing her options for a moment, she could only nod. “Alright.”

Just as the two were about to leave, Evan Dale—who had been standing there like a deer in headlights—finally snapped out of it. He called out anxiously, “Mr. Carter…”

“Wait here,” Ethan Carter cut him off.

Evan nodded automatically. “Uh, okay.”

The next second, his eyes widened.

“Wait, what—?”

But by then, the two had already walked away, and all Evan could do was swallow back every ounce of shock and confusion.

He honestly felt like he’d woken up in a world that had left him behind.

Last month?

Starlight hotel?

A baby?

It wasn’t exactly hard to piece together, and the story practically wrote itself.

But the part that made zero sense was how all of this involved Mr. Carter.

He’d only taken two days off last month—how could he have missed something this huge?

He must be losing it. Ethan Carter had been acting so out of character, but Evan just thought the guy was being nice. He should’ve known better. The Ethan Carter he knew barely spared a glance for any woman, let alone—

Wait, did he just indirectly call Mr. Carter a deadbeat dad a minute ago?

Crap. What now?

Was his paycheck about to take a hit?

Within seconds, Evan’s shock was replaced by anxiety. Crap, crap, crap. He needed that money for his daughter’s formula.

And as luck would have it, before he could even ask Evan to track her down, he ran into her at the hospital.

He could see how much she wanted nothing to do with him, so he changed his approach and came at it from another angle.

As expected, Olivia’s mind went completely blank. She even forgot about the baby for a second.

Her cheeks went bright red. She wanted to crawl under a rock. “I didn’t mean to—I, I was…”

She trailed off, realizing there was no real explanation for that night.

She gritted her teeth. “Alright, just tell me—how much do you want?”

She shot him a look, then added, “I mean, you are good-looking, but don’t get cocky. Besides… it’s not like you didn’t get something out of it too.”

That last part came out barely above a whisper.

Ethan’s face darkened, but he let out a disbelieving laugh. “What exactly do you think I am?”
