From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 97

“Jasper Lane.”

Jasper Lane looked up, following the sound of his name.

Down the hallway, a girl about eighteen or nineteen stepped out. She wore a cream-colored knit sweater and matching wide-legged pants, the kind you’d see on someone with effortless style at a college coffee shop. Her hair was jet-black and cut into a neat bob, with a pair of small braids pulled away from her face, making her delicate features stand out even more.

She fixed her big brown eyes on Jasper, looking sweet and innocent.

But Jasper knew better—she was nothing like she appeared. He scoffed, pretending not to hear, and turned to push open the door to the private room.

Getting ignored like that made Daisy Dale’s brows knit together in annoyance.

She hurried over and grabbed his wrist. “Wait up. I need to talk to you.”

Jasper stared at her hand on his arm, not bothering to hide his irritation. “Let go. I don’t have anything to say to you.”

His voice was cool and distant, with a hint of that trademark rebel edge.

Daisy wasn’t the type to back down. The more he brushed her off, the more stubborn she got.

“Not letting go unless you talk to me,” she insisted, digging her heels in. “, open the door. I’ll go in with you. Not like I’m scared.”

Jasper’s eyes went cold. He let out a short laugh. “You really are just as annoying as your mom.”

Daisy glared at him, her voice sharp. “Don’t talk about my mom.”

Jasper, even as much as he disliked her, would never actually hurt her. He tugged his arm, barely containing his impatience. “Let go.”

Daisy recognized the sign—he was giving in. She quickly let go.

“Talk.” Jasper kept it short, like he was already exhausted by the conversation.

Daisy pressed her lips together.

She knew Jasper didn’t like her.

She wasn’t exactly a fan of his, either.

Any other day, with Jasper acting like this, she would’ve just walked away. But right now, she needed something.

“Who did you come upstairs with just now?”

Jasper didn’t even look at her. “Not your business.”

Daisy sighed, letting his words roll off her back. She took a steadying breath and tried again.

“Was it Ethan and his mom?”

At the mention of “his mom,” Jasper’s whole vibe shifted, the air turning icy.

He let out a cold laugh. “And who’s ‘his mom’ supposed to be?”

Daisy stomped her foot. “Don’t play dumb! You know who I mean.”

Jasper’s tone was lazy, almost bored. “No clue.”

Daisy shot him a wounded look, biting her lip when she saw his cold expression.

She hesitated, then mumbled, “Were you with Ethan and…Adelina?”
