From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 99

Catherine Blair froze, her eyes wide. “About me?”

Daisy Dale hesitated, shaking her head, then nodding—clearly unsure, she finally just stood there, totally conflicted.

Catherine couldn’t help but laugh, reaching out to give Daisy’s hair a playful ruffle. “It’s okay, really. I’m fine—just tell me.”

Daisy glanced down, worrying her lip for a couple seconds before finally speaking. “I saw Ethan come in with some girl. He was, um, holding her hand.”

She peeked up at Catherine, nervous about her reaction.

The smile vanished from Catherine’s face in an instant, her earlier warmth replaced by a stiff, forced grin. “You must’ve been mistaken, Daisy,” she said, not quite ready to believe it.

Daisy thought back, chewing on her thoughts. She was pretty sure of what she’d seen. She hadn’t dared to stare, just took a quick peek from behind the wall, but she’d bet eighty percent she hadn’t been wrong.

But seeing Catherine’s face, Daisy put on her best “maybe I’m not sure” look and said, “I mean, I guess it’s possible. Ethan’s mom was there, so I didn’t get close. I just glanced over and ducked away. Maybe I was mistaken.”

Catherine nodded, but a wave of worry was already building inside her. She pressed on, “What did the girl look like?”

Daisy squinted, trying to remember. “I’d never seen her before. She was tall and slim, pretty, but not as pretty as you,” she added, trying to be reassuring.

Normally, that would’ve made Catherine laugh. But not now.
