From Betrayal to Brilliance Her Rise to a New Life novel Chapter 246

Chapter 246 He’s Not Her Daughter’s Father

Hearing Lewis’ words, Athena let out a mocking laugh. She shot back, “Heartless? That sounds a lot like you. You’re the one who went after Nina.

“Lewis, you always act like you love me, but you don’t really love anyone. You only care about yourself and what you want!”

If that was his idea of regret, then his so-called love was meaningless.

“Athena, I know I messed up. Nina tricked me back then, and now she’s trying to use Anna to get to me. I just pushed her a bit. She fell on her own. It’s not my fault. Please, help me.”

Lewis was panicking, desperate for Athena to feel sorry for him.

She looked at him, who was completely broken in front of her. Her emotions were all tangled. She could hardly remember the first time she’d liked him—if it even happened. Whatever she’d felt was so faint that it was almost gone.

Now, looking at Lewis, she felt only pity. The past was best left behind.

She didn’t care about him anymore. There was just one question she needed answered.

Athena stared at him. “Lewis, tell me-where’s my daughter?”

He went quiet.

After a long pause, he rasped, “I can’t find her.

“I’ve tried everything, even tracked down the gynecologist from back then, but there’s no trace …”

Lewis had planned to use Athena’s daughter as leverage. But no matter how hard he searched, she seemed to have disappeared.

Seeing Athena and Zaden growing closer, almost like he was fading out of their lives, he had no choice but to try a fake plan to trick her.

It was supposed to be perfect, but Zaden saw through it immediately.

Hearing Lewis admit it, Athena felt a strange relief.

Her daughter might be missing, but at least she was alive.

“That’s enough. Conversation is over, Lewis. Go back to the surveillance room!”

The officer motioned him away. Lewis left, full of frustration, regret, and reluctance, though mostly pain.

Athena studied him and figured he probably regretted hurting Nina-not out of genuine guilt, but because it had backfired on him.

From start to finish, he’d only ever cared about himself.

“Athena, you and Zaden won’t last! There’s no way you two end up together! Zaden’s first love is coming back. Do you even know how much a guy cares about his first crush? You’ll see-he’s no better than me!”

Lewis spat out the words with a sneer before leaving.

Athena frowned slightly.

She’d heard fragments of Zaden’s past. His first love had left him and moved away, and he’d acted like it didn’t matter.

Lewis was just trying to stir up trouble between them.

Athena ignored him.

A shadow crossed Lewis’ face. There was a secret he’d never told her. The daughter Athena had given birth to wasn’t even his. There’d been a small accident. By the time he got there, the damage was already done. Later, for some twisted reasons, he ended up claiming Athena’s child for Nina’s sake.

He was sure that this secret would come out eventually. When it did, Athena and Zaden’s relationship would be doomed. But he wasn’t telling her now.
