Chapter 248 Celebration

Athena let out a sigh.

“Yeah, getting mixed up with him was just bad luck. It’s a shame that Lewis and I have a daughter. That bond will always be there.”

Even if she found her daughter someday, half of her bloodline came from the Belmonts, and that fact would never change.

Kate’s eyes flickered at Athena’s words. “Maybe it’s not as bad as you think. Things could turn out better. Life has a way of looking after you.”

Athena didn’t understand what Kate meant, but she knew Kate was just trying to comfort her.

Having lost her adoptive parents at a young age, Athena had been on her own for a long time. Even after learning about her birth parents, she’d never really known what family felt like.

Now, with Kate being so kind, Athena felt a warmth she’d never experienced-a real sense of care from someone older.

She gave a small, brighter smile. “Professor, don’t worry about me. I’m not that easy to knock down.”

“Athena, since you’re no longer tied to Lewis, and you’re still married to Zaden, why not just be with him properly? He’s way better than Lewis ever was, and Teri is such a sweet kid. You could treat her like your own.”

Athena froze, surprised that her professor was suddenly playing matchmaker.

Was that where Harriet got it from? Maybe she inherited that habit from Kate, always trying to push people together.

Athena remembered something Lewis had said before. She hadn’t reacted at that time, but the words stuck.

She pushed the thought aside and smiled at Kate. “Well… I think Zaden probably still has someone he can’t forget. I doubt anything would happen between us.

“Professor, please don’t try to play cupid. I don’t want to get in the middle of anyone else’s relationship.”

“Nonsense! Who says Zaden has someone else?” Kate’s face darkened. She sounded annoyed.

“Uh… ” Athena knew Kate meant well, but love wasn’t something others could force.

Seeing Athena’s reaction, Kate let out a heavy sigh.

“Fine. I won’t push. But Zaden is a good guy. Just think about it, okay?”

Athena felt relieved.

Kate’s persistence could be overwhelming. If she’d kept pushing, Athena wouldn’t have known what to say.

They sat quietly for a moment before Kate spoke again. “Weren’t you planning to work at the hospital? When you’re ready, go there. I’ve taken care of everything. No one will treat you badly.”

Athena couldn’t help smiling.

Maybe Kate was just tired of seeing her lounge around and wanted to keep her busy.

But she realized Kate actually wanted her to focus on something. It could ease her anxiety about finding her daughter and keep her from getting lost in her feelings.

She didn’t argue and nodded gently. “Got it. I’ll start in a couple of days.”

Honestly, she wasn’t all that upset anymore. Life had to move forward, and she needed to pull herself together.

And as for her daughter? She wasn’t giving up-she’d keep searching until she found her.

Athena had only planned to crash at Kate’s for one night.

But Kate didn’t like the idea of leaving her alone, so she insisted that Athena stay. Athena couldn’t argue, so she agreed. The next day, Harriet showed up.

She said she just wanted to hang out with Athena.

Of course, Harriet quickly figured out what had happened. When she learned about Lewis, she actually cheered and got excited, already starting to make plans.

Athena just went along with it, not really having a choice.
