Chapter 250 A Misunderstanding
Finished
Athena was completely stunned. She didn’t even know what to say and just ended up getting into Zaden’s car.
Harriet waved goodbye with a teasing grin as they pulled away.
It wasn’t until they pulled up to Zaden’s villa and he showed her to a room that Athena finally came to her senses.
Hold on-what’s even happening right now?
How did it come to this?
Left alone, Athena sat on the edge of the bed, nerves all over the place, while Zaden went to tuck Teri in.
She had no idea how long she’d been sitting there before the door finally opened. The soft click of the lock sounded way too loud, making her heart jump. She froze as Zaden walked in, her brain completely scrambled-like a computer that had just crashed. She didn’t even know where to start.
Seeing Athena standing there in a daze, Zaden stepped closer and gently pulled her over.
He placed his hands on her shoulders and guided her to sit on the edge of the bed.
That brought her back to reality. “You…”
“What I said at Professor Warner’s house was all sincere. Not a single word was a lie,” Zaden said, looking deeply into her eyes.
That was exactly what Athena had been about to ask him.
Zaden went on, “You agreed to give us a shot. Are you backing out now?”
“No!” Athena blurted out, not even sure what else to say.
Zaden looked completely serious. Did he really intend to be with her?
Athena’s chest tightened, her pulse going crazy.
Then Zaden pulled her into a gentle hug. He didn’t do anything else, just held her and whispered, “Athena, there’s no woman I can’t get over. If you don’t believe me, look for yourself. Just give me a chance.”
Hearing Zaden’s voice, Athena said softly, “Lewis said your ex is coming back. He claimed you
still have deep feelings for her and that you two would get back together. I figured I shouldn’t get in the way.”
Zaden suddenly laughed at her words.
He said, “Lewis has regretted losing you ever since. Of course, he’s been trying to sabotage any relationship you might have. He’s lying to you.”
As Athena listened to his explanation, she slowly started to feel more at ease.
Even though part of her hadn’t fully believed Lewis, his words had still shaken her.
“So you’re saying … ”
Zaden continued, “My past with her ended seven or eight years ago. After that, we completely cut ties. If I truly couldn’t forget her, I would have gone to find her long ago. Why would I wait for her to come back?”
Athena was silent for a long time.
He had a point. Zaden wasn’t the type to waste years waiting for someone. If he still cared, he would’ve acted long ago.
There was no reason to keep it hidden in his heart.
So yeah-Lewis really had just been stirring up drama.
Zaden reached over and gently ruffled her hair. “Alright, go take a shower and get some sleep. Don’t overthink it.”
Wait, what?
Take a shower and sleep? Athena’s mind went wild for a second.
She looked at him, unsure what he meant.
Was she supposed to sleep here? By herself-or with him?
Zaden caught the look on her face and couldn’t help but smile. “Relax. I’ll sleep in the study. But if you get scared or want me to stay, just say so.”
He was being calm and considerate, giving her space.
He understood that now that he had clarified things with Athena, she might need some time to take it all in. He didn’t want to rush her and scare her off. If it hadn’t been for her misunderstanding, he might have taken a more gradual approach, slowly building their relationship.
