The cat was lazy and didn’t move much, but it was so cute that everyone loved to pet it.
At first, her family thought the cat was just lazy. Later, when it started eating less and less, they realized it was sick.
They took the cat to the pet clinic, and the vet found huge stones in its belly.
Now, as Caroline checked over Raven, she found no wounds or signs of sickness.
Still, she couldn’t shake the worry in her chest. She coaxed Raven to drink a large bottle of spring water and watched closely.
That night, she was woken by soft whimpers beside her. It was Raven.
Jet had already flown in, circling anxiously over the bed. The bird was panicked, squawking words that barely made sense–something about “Raven hurts” and “Raven’s dying.”
Caroline tried to have Jet talk with Raven and asked him where it hurt.
But even though both animals had evolved, their minds still weren’t mature enough for real
communication.
After a while, the only answer she could make out was that Raven’s whole body hurt, like there was fire burning inside.
Outside, the temperature had dropped to nearly -30 F. Inside, even with the charcoal fire, it was barely above freezing.
Caroline was sweating from panic.
She didn’t dare give Raven any medicine or more spring water. All she could do was hold it tightly and hope it would pass.
After several careful checks, she had a sudden thought. Maybe Raven was about to evolve again.
Soon, Raven’s body grew hotter and hotter.
Caroline measured its temperature–it was over 140°F.

Jet stopped panicking and just stood by quietly, staring at Raven with wide, worried eyes.
Raven stayed unconscious for three whole days.
During that time, Caroline kept checking his temperature and giving Raven small sips of
water.
He refused all food.
On the fourth night, Caroline was asleep when she felt something wet against her face.
She opened her eyes to see a huge dog’s head staring back at her–Raven’s.
His eyes glowed bright blue in the darkness, dotted with tiny points of light, like stars.
They looked just like the glowing spots Caroline had seen in the healing spring and the black soil inside her storage space.
Suddenly, she remembered–Raven had once swallowed a blue light inside that space.
Could it be that blue light had triggered this evolution?
Caroline’s sleep vanished in an instant.
She sat up straight, wide awake, only to notice something shocking–Raven had shrunk.
Just yesterday, he’d been the size of a small horse, stomping around the apartment like a moving wall.
But now, he was back to his old size. Aside from those glowing blue eyes, he looked just like the dog she used to know.
Caroline stared at him, stunned. She reached out and gently stroked his head. “What kind of mutation did you go through?” she murmured.
Of course, Raven couldn’t answer. But Jet could. The bird flapped his wings and yelled, “Hungry! Raven’s starving!”
That’s when it hit her. Raven hadn’t woken her up for fun. He was calling her like, “Hey, human, it’s dinner time!”
Then Caroline truly witnessed what “bottomless pit” meant.
