When Alison got home, she thought about cutting her wrists, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
She even tried to take off her clothes and freeze to death, but she couldn’t last more than a few
minutes.
After struggling for hours, she finally understood: she still wanted to live.
No matter how hopeless she felt, her will to survive wouldn’t let her die.
She still wanted to live.
“What a miserable life,” Alison muttered to herself.
The next morning, after thinking it through again and again, she packed up everything she owned and went downstairs.
Snow and wind whipped against her face as she trudged toward Building B.
Bethany had once tried to sell her off, and she had meant to send her to Building B!
This was maybe because Building B was a little farther away, where no one knew them. Unlike the neighbors in Building A, the people there wouldn’t recognize her, and she could at least save a little bit of dignity.
Back then, the bridge between the two buildings was still intact. Bethany had forced her across to Building B.
And that was where Alison met a woman–a terrifyingly powerful woman.
That day, Bethany got beaten down so badly she almost didn’t make it out alive. In the end, she had to beg for mercy just to survive.
The woman had looked at Alison with cold disdain and said, “Idiots like you don’t deserve to live. But if one day you actually grow a brain, come find me. People who’ve truly woken up are the easiest to train. They can become a sharp blade.”
Now, stumbling through the blizzard, Alison finally reached the front of Building B.
She looked up and saw that same woman standing at a window, gazing down at her. A faint, cruel smile played on the woman’s lips.

Meanwhile, Caroline closed the door behind her and went back to her work. The sidecar she had found was missing an engine, but she was almost done fixing it. She wrapped heavy snow chains around the wheels for grip and welded a soft convertible top she had taken from a luxury sports car onto it. The material was sleek and high–end.
She tugged the soft top and couldn’t help but smile. “Wonderful! Well–deserved to come from a million–dollar car. Nice.”
With careful welding, she fixed the top securely in place, forming a small cabin that could shield her from the wind and snow.
At the front, she cut out a small window and sealed it with a piece of clear plastic so she could see ahead.
At the bottom, she made two holes so her arms could reach out to hold the reins tied to Raven.
When everything was finished, Caroline checked it all over, satisfied. Then she took out a strong hemp rope from her storage space and tied it firmly to the sidecar.
Raven, curious and excited, walked around the strange contraption, sniffing and wagging his tail.
He had no idea that once night came, Caroline planned to take him out to race through the
snow.
After finishing her work, Caroline lay down for a short rest.
When midnight came, she quietly put Raven and Jet into her storage space, then slipped out of the apartment and down the stairs, disappearing into the silent, frozen night.
Caroline glanced back and saw that Tyler and Kay hadn’t followed. She finally breathed easier.
They were teammates now, but some secrets were still hers alone.
It had been snowing for a full week. Eight floors of the building were buried under snow, which actually saved her some climbing time.
Everything around was white, endless, and quiet.
The snow had just stopped. A bright, round moon hung above, casting silver light across the frozen world.
