Caroline thought, if Raven still doesn’t get what she meant, maybe she should just teach him to unlock that pendant storage space himself. Then she would drip her blood and link it again. Problem solved.
But this time, Raven–who used to learn everything fast–looked like his brain had stopped working.
No matter what she said, he just stared at her with those big round eyes.
Caroline finally got so tired she tapped his head and said, “Just think about breaking your bond with this storage space! Just imagine it in your head and repeat it. Break the bond! Got it, Raven?”
Raven didn’t even move. He flopped down on the floor and shut his eyes, pretending to be asleep.
Didn’t even look at her.
Caroline was fuming. She turned to Jet. “Did Raven say anything just now?”
Jet hopped around on the floor, his tiny eyes darting side to side, but he didn’t answer.
Caroline frowned. Something felt off.
“What’s going on? Why aren’t you talking either?”
She pulled a handful of pinecones–Jet’s favorite snack–from her storage and waved them in front of him. She glared at Raven once more, then crouched beside Jet and said, “Tell me what Raven said, and all these pinecones will be yours.”
Jet hesitated for a long time. Then he looked up at her with a mischievous glint in his blurted, “Raven said, ‘Humans are so dumb.”
Caroline exploded.
Now she got it. Raven wasn’t confused or injured or slow.

and
He was doing it on purpose!
That dog just didn’t want to give her the pendant.
And the worst part? He was playing with it. Raven was treating the storage pendant like a toy-

putting his toy ball in, taking it out, and doing it again and again.
He even came up with tricks.

That dog would jump into the air, send the ball into the pendant mid–jump, then make it pop out above him.
So, he could bounce it with his head like some kind of game!
Caroline nagged at Raven for a long time, her arms crossed, looking completely mad.
She even decided she wouldn’t talk to him anymore.
To her surprise, Raven was the one who came to make peace.
He laid his big head on her lap. He wagged his tail hard, as if saying, “Come on, human, don’t be mad at me.”
Then, blinking his bright eyes, Raven pulled out hundreds of pounds of meat from the storage space and pushed it forward with his paw. “Here, take it! Don’t be upset. Let me play with that pendant for a few more days–it’s so fun!”
When Caroline saw the pile of meat, she felt both touched and furious.
Touched, because at least the trip wasn’t for nothing. The pendant still worked. Raven’s adventure had paid off. There were ridiculous amounts of meat that filled up four full layers of
storage.
She was furious because Raven had treated the pendant like a toy. He had actually gotten addicted to it.
Soon, Caroline figured out what was really going on–Raven had evolved, and he was still evolving. His intelligence was much higher than before. Everything around him seemed new and exciting. He’d even started to show little thoughts of his own, small hints of curiosity and cleverness she hadn’t seen before. To him, the world now felt completely different, full of wonder and things to explore.
It was just like a teenager growing up–smarter, taller, and a little rebellious.
Raven was exactly in that phase.
Caroline sighed, rubbing his head. “Alright. You can play for a while. But once you’ve had enough, you give it back to me, got it?”
Raven wagged his tail so hard his whole body shook. His eyes sparkling like stars. “You’re the
