“Pasta, white flour, noodles, also compressed biscuits, wheat grains, and so on. But those grains are large and can’t be ground into flour. The officials are looking for food processing factories. that still work.”
Hearing this, Caroline’s eyes lit up even more.
“Lieutenant Richter, what if I said we could give you corn and beans, which are more filling? We could also provide food processing machines. What could you give us in return?”
Niko immediately stood up from his seat.
He remembered the man named Dyson who had come before, saying Caroline and her group had moved a whole grain warehouse.
He had thought about making a deal with them.
But he didn’t expect Caroline to actually have machines that could process food!
They’d been searching for those forever, and still hadn’t found any.
The higher–ups had already ordered them to speed up the hunt for food processing equipment.
“What do you want? If we’ve got it, it’s yours for trade.”
Caroline smiled. “Let us discuss it first.”
She gave Kay and Tyler a glance, and they followed her outside.
Selling this batch to the military was actually easier than selling to anyone else.
First, the grain had been stored in a ruined building, and there was a risk of it being discovered.
Second, with so much food, they couldn’t eat it all for now, so they wanted to trade it for other supplies.
Most people couldn’t consume such large quantities.
But the military could.
Third, Caroline knew a secret about the military, which let her “leverage” them and ask for

interest.
Even so, the military still benefited. The items they provided could help them in future production and disaster response.
Caroline acted all calculating and bold, just to make the military think she wasn’t easy to push around.
She wanted them to believe she’d just gotten lucky, and this was a one–time trade, so they wouldn’t mess with her. Especially after seeing Niko’s actions, Caroline knew she had to be extra careful dealing with the military.
Better to protect yourself than regret it later.
After a short discussion, everyone decided to make their own lists according to their needs.
The grain previously moved from the warehouse was now buried underground.
Divided, each person got about 5,000 pounds of corn and 2,000 pounds of beans.
“Remember to ask for interest. Don’t let that Richter guy take advantage of us. He was pointing a gun at us not long ago,” Caroline reminded them with a glance.
When the lists were ready, Kay played it pretty safe.
She calculated three pounds of corn and beans for one pound of pasta or white flour, and also asked for some hydroponic vegetable equipment, coal, and some miscellaneous daily items like sanitary pads.
It’s worth noting that the grain Caroline collected from the warehouse was unprocessed–corn cobs included the cores, all counted by weight.
But everyone knew these coarse grains filled you up fast and kept hunger at bay.
So trading three pounds for one pound could be seen as fair.
The extras were considered interest.
Tyler, however, wasn’t shy.
Same deal, three pounds of corn and beans for one pound of coarse or refined grain. Then he asked for several hundred pounds of meat.
Meat was far more valuable than grain in the apocalypse.
