Next to the heavy steel door was a yellow warning sign-“No Entry Without Permission.”

Caroline stared at the sign and the thick iron lock with growing curiosity. There must be something valuable inside, given the tight lock on this area.

After all, the best treasures were always hidden at the top.

She pulled out her universal key from her storage space and unlocked the door. With one firm kick, she stepped inside.

To her surprise, the entire top floor was one massive open platform–no walls, no divisions.

The ceiling was higher than any of the floors below.

Someone had combined the attic and rooftop into one massive chamber.

In front of her stood rows upon rows of metal shelves, stretching far across the space.

Each shelf was filled with crates and boxes stacked tightly together.

As Caroline got closer, she realized the items were all black–market goods–things banned from export and sold only through underground channels.

The first two shelves weren’t very tall. Each item was sealed inside wooden crates.

Caroline lifted her flashlight and peeked inside one of them. Inside were vases, a furnace, and scroll paintings–all priceless antiques.

“Antiques,” she muttered, a spark lighting in her eyes.

She even spotted a large rosewood table carefully wrapped for transport, probably ready to be smuggled out of the country.

Without thinking twice, Caroline stored everything away in her space.

Like gemstones, these objects seemed to carry a faint spiritual energy. Maybe they’d be useful later. Even if not, once human civilization rebuilt itself, the government would probably value such things again.

When she was done with the first two racks, she moved forward and stopped. Before her lay the bodies of animals.

She saw the dried corpses of antelopes, snakes, monkeys, and minks–all once–precious species now starved to death in cages. Their bodies were shriveled, just skin and bone, with the flesh inside long decayed or gone.

The sight made her stomach sick. She hurried past that section.

A disturbing thought hit her–if these animals were dead, why didn’t they smell? Why was all the flesh gone, leaving only the skins?

Were they eaten by something?

Caroline suddenly grew cautious.

Raven beside her was tense too. He sniffed around but found nothing out of place.

She didn’t want to waste time worrying. The sooner she collected everything here, the sooner she could leave.

At the far end of the room, she spotted something covered with a thick rain tarp.

Her gut told her there was something valuable underneath.

When she pulled the tarp away, she found three or four crates.

One was full of hunting rifles. Another was packed with ammo. And the last one held scattered

gun parts.

Hunting rifles weren’t easy to handle. They fired too slowly, but their power was much greater than a regular handgun.

The bullets all seemed to fit them.

As for the gun parts, she couldn’t tell what model they were. Still, she decided to take them all.

After she walked past these crates, there were several metal shelves filled with old videotapes, cassettes, magazines, and books.

When Caroline flipped through a few, her face twitched. Every cover showed some pornographic images.

Her mouth twitched, turned away in disgust, ready to leave.

But after taking two steps, she sighed, went back, and packed up some of them anyway. Who knew? Maybe someone out there would want this stuff, and she could trade it for something useful.
