Neville’s coat looked like it was made by sewing two mink coats together.

Even in the middle of the apocalypse, he was still fat and strong enough to take down General. Clearly, he wasn’t someone to mess with.
Riley stood beside him, smiling nervously. He had lost one arm, which was roughly bandaged. He now wore a thick down jacket.
It was probably a reward for “offering” General.
Caroline studied the group. Her hand went to her backpack, but what she really pulled from her storage space was a handgun.
The moment the gun appeared, those men around her panicked.
“She’s got a gun!” Someone shouted.
Neville kicked Riley hard, clearly blaming him for bad intel.
“I swear, Neville! I didn’t know! She never pulled a gun before!” Riley cried.
He was rolling on the ground from the pain but only dared to argue in a small voice.
Neville wasn’t from this area. He ruled over a gang about three miles away, near an old school.
He and Riley had known each other even before the world ended. After the apocalypse, they’d once almost fought when following Mick’s crew.
Neville’s gang had more people, but Mick’s group had one huge advantage–a mutant dog. That dog was General.
In the end, both sides agreed to stay out of each other’s way.
But Neville had one disgusting hobby. He loved eating dog meat. He didn’t just like it; he was obsessed.
A few days ago, he had sent men to find Riley. He wanted to eat Mick’s dog and even offered payment for it.
Riley refused.
With General around, they lived well.

Mick might have been a sly man, but he always shared the food and loot General brought
back.
Then everything fell apart.
During that bloody night, General had nearly torn Riley to pieces.
Riley only survived because he played dead. He got lucky when another corpse fell on top of him, hiding him from the beast.
When General finally left, Riley crawled out, terrified the dog would return.
He ran, but not far. After a few hundred feet, he ran into Neville’s men.
Neville had been craving dog meat so badly that he came personally to hunt General.
Riley, desperate to save himself, told them where to find the dog. Neville’s group followed his directions. They ambushed General and managed to capture him.
Neville was a cruel man. He liked his meat raw. When he saw General, he thought the dog was too skinny. So, he decided to keep him alive, just long enough to fatten him up before the feast.
This is how the current scene unfolded. General was beaten half to death, his head pinned to the ground, his skin cut open while they tore into his flesh.
Neville and his gang had followed Riley to Mick’s stash. Mick was terrified. He handed over all the supplies he’d hidden.
Neville was pleased. He rewarded Mick’s group by naming him second–in–command among his crew. He even promised Riley a life of comfort and good food.
Then Neville asked what had made General lose control.
Riley told him everything about Caroline.
The moment Neville heard that Caroline owned a big black dog–fat, shiny, and strong–his eyes lit up.
He tore into General’s hind leg, saliva dripping from his mouth. “You’re telling me it’s a fat, black dog with glossy fur and plenty of meat on the bones?”
Riley understood what Neville meant. He nodded quickly. Riley described Raven as a massive, rare dog–one that shouldn’t even exist in the apocalypse.
