The creature growled at Ambrose, a deep, threatening sound that made his blood run cold.

Ambrose froze in fear. His good hand fumbled at his belt, pulling out a dagger. He lunged that dagger at Raven with a shaky yell.

“Argghh!”

But the dagger never reached its target.

Raven sank his teeth into Ambrose’s arm.

He bit down hard and yanked his head to the side. The whole arm tore off in a spray of blood.

Blood was everywhere.

Ambrose screamed in agony before he passed out.

“Protect the colonel! Protect him!” Shouted one of the soldiers.

The soldiers–who Raven had knocked down earlier–finally came to their senses. They stumbled to their feet, hands trembling as they tried to raise their guns.

They were men who were under the protection of the Lowlands for years, untouched by real war. Before the apocalypse, they were just ordinary soldiers.

They had never fought a mutant. Never experience any hardship.

Now, staring at the bloody scene before them, their hands trembled as they tried to hold their

guns.

After Raven tore off Ambrose’s arm, he shook it twice. Blood sprayed through the air, splattering across the walls and soldiers like rain.

When he finally stopped, he held the severed arm in his jaws and stared at those soldiers in front of him. Their hands shook on their triggers, but Raven didn’t care. Facing those dark gun barrels, he didn’t back down. Instead, he grinned–his red jaws wide, his teeth gleaming under the dim light.

With a wet thud, the arm dropped to the ground. Raven opened his bloody mouth and lunged toward one of the soldiers.

The man panicked and pulled the trigger.

But before he could fire again, someone came up from behind and kicked him hard in the back.

He stumbled forward. The shot went wild, hitting Ambrose, who was lying on the floor. The bullet tore into Ambrose’s shoulder.

The pain was so sharp that he woke up screaming, his eyes wide.

“Arghhh!” Ambrose screamed in pain. The first thing he saw when he woke up was a human head lying inches from his face–its eyes wide open, pale and lifeless.

Ambrose gave another pitiful scream. He fainted all over again.

The one who had kicked the soldier was Tyler.

He moved fast, knocking the guns out of the soldiers‘ hands one by one. His face stayed calm, not even a flicker of emotion as he looked at the bloody, scene before him.

Raven was still wild with fury. He bit straight through the shoulder of the soldier who had fired at him and tossed the man across the room.

The soldier’s head slammed into the wall. He slid down and didn’t move again.

By the time Caroline ran up the stairs, that was what she saw–the bloody scene.

The few soldiers left drew their blades, pointing them at Tyler and Raven.

They were terrified. Backs pressed against the wall, legs trembling uncontrollably.

Raven’s eyes burned with rage, wild and feral.

In that moment, he looked like a beast straight out of hell–covered in blood, breathing heavily, a monster of vengeance.

Caroline froze. What could have made Raven so furious?

Behind her, Francis and his men rushed up the stairs.

He had hesitated earlier, but his gut told him not to trust Ambrose to handle things alone.

“That bastard can’t die here!” Francis muttered as he ran.

It took him a second to realize what that truly meant.
